age not yet planted, has led 1 to the
creation of'an eriormous short Interest
at a time when the supplies of actual
cotton throughout the world are rap
idly diminishing. I think it. quite
likely that the final glnners’ report of
tomorrow will show more than 10,-
600,000 hales, exclusive of llnters. In
clusive of llnters the total ought to
be around .10,750,000. Such a supply,
after allowing for the proportion of it
marketed prior to the first of Septem
ber, and Included In last year’s com
mercial crop, Is not excessive, especi
ally as spinners’ takings are continu
ing on a somewhat larger scale than
1 had .anticipated when the market waB
2 cents per pound higher. The pros
pect is that, unless a sharp advance
in the market comes, which will check
trade buying to some extent, we sh.ould
go to the end of the summer months
with stocks of cotton throughout the
world which will not be burdensome
and a standard of consumption will
have been established that will de
mand a crop of 12,000,000 next year.
Under these circumstances I would
advise spinners and others In need of
cotton during the next three or four
months to take advantage of the pres
ent opportunity for securing that sup

NEW YORK COTTON LETTER.
By wire to Clark & Co.
New York, March 19.—The move
ment of cotton from first hands and
the spinners furnishes evidence of the
normal condition of the market and
the inclination of producer and con
sumer to accept the conservative es
timate of the true value of raw cotton.
There is no change in goods and the
demand for deliveries based upon new
crop prices for raw is daily increasing.
With September-October basis but
three-quarters of a cent per pound
cheaper than July, and September,
October, November deliveries of sheet
ings and coarse goods the same as im
mediate, it looks as though the early
receipts of new cotton will find a
ready market.
The undertone of the local market
Is firm and probably would have ad
vanced further before noon, had not
d
the traders suspected that a certain
professed bull wap unloading on them.
. Be this as it may, the underlying
conditions are for the maintenance of
good prices and until we are a long
way toward securing a new crop of
twelve and a half million bales mini

THEODORE H. PRICE ON COTTON.
New York, March 19.—Theodore H.
Price is out in the following circular:
In reply to numerous inquiries ns
to ray opinion on cotton received since
my return to New York this morning,
I would say that I see no reason to
apprehend any immediate decline in
the cotton market, buf am rather dis
posed to look for an advance. My ob
servations when in the South, and my
interviews with many people from
many sections convinced mo that the
tendency to sell the market short up
on the theory of an enormous acre-
Weather throughout the belt, with
the exception of Texas, was fierce,
Rains from, six inches down were re
ported.
It was rumored that Price would is
sue a bullish circular today.
We opened 10 up with a fair demand
for the spring and summer positions.
The fall and winter months were not
in demand.
Port receipts were .only
against 42,000 last year. ^

The census department will issue

llnters. A separate report will be
made on llnters.
Try a Wlss Shear and you will like It. It has a smoother cutting
edge than any other shear, and the blades stay sharp. The Wlsd
Shear is the standard with the Tailor, the Seamstress, etc. It you
must have a shear as a working tool, the Wlss Shear was made for
that purpose. Call and let ue show fhem to you.

Strong demand for good grades is a
most powerful factor in sustaining the
market at present.
We advise all our friends to be even
on the market over the ginners.
Liverpool was very active all day,
and the close was firm at an advance
of 4 points. - 1
\
Support from spinners is practically
the market’s only hope, as the general
public will not "bull” the market again
on this crop.
The market will soon offer unusual
1 advantages t( those who can sell and
stay with it.
