To be One of the Most In
teresting Papers Ever
Issued in Southern Geor
gia.
The Ctautanqua edition of The Her
ald will be the best advertising me
dium of the year, so far as this sec
tion of the state Is concerned.
To begin with, It will be the largest
paper ever Issued In Southern 'Georgia.
But this will be a very small part
of what the edition will have to com
mend It. It will be full to overflowing
with Interesting features. It will con
tain the telegraphic news of the world
right up to the hour of sending the
last forms to presB, and will cover a
wide range ot local topics. It will tell
In a comprehensive manner what Al
bany bas recently accomplished and
what she hopes to achieve In tbe neat'
future. It will depict in an Interest
ing manner what Albany offers In 1906
to outside capital and “new blood.” .
A good deal of space will be devoted
to Chautauqua—tbe Georgia Chautau
qua movement In general and the
eighteenth annual assembly In par
ticular.
Tbe edition will be liberally and
handsomely Illustrated, and typography
Ically will be the most ambitious pub
lication ever Issued from The Herald
office. A large edition will )>e printed
for circulation throughout the state,
and will appear at the logical hour—
exactly one week before tbe opening
of Chautauqua.
The merchants and business men of
Albany generally have not been slow
to manifest their appreciation of this
special edition aB an Incomparable ad
vertising medium. The demand for
space In Its pages bas been remark
able, and the advertising patronage
of the paper will be In keeping with
Its other features. I
As previously announced, the edi
tion will appear on Sunday morning,
April 16.

A. Q. Allens' negro minstrels was
the alleged attraction In this city last
night, the minstrels showing under
canvas at the old Halcyon lot at the
corner ot Broad and Jefferson streets.
Despite the heavy rains of yesterday,
which prevented giving an afternoon
performance, a large crowd turned out
at night, the crowd consisting for the
most part of negroes, of course. Al
len's minstrels Is up to the usual stan
dard ot canvas shows ot this kind,
pleasing the negroes, for whom the
performance Is given.
Torture by Savages.
“Speaking of tbe torture to whlcb
some of the savage tribes In the Phil
ippines subject their captives, reminds
me of the Intense suffering I endured
for three months from Inflammation of
the Kidneys," sayB W. M. Sherman, of
Cushing, Me. “Nothing helped me un
til I tried Electric Bitters, three bot
tles of which completely cured me."
Cures Liver Complaint, Dyspepsia,
Blood disorders and Malaria; and re
stored the weak and nervouB to ro
bust health. Guaranteed by Albany

/Pity the fellow who, In the firm be
lief that winter bad passed and that
spring had surely come, changed hlB
winter apparel and put on the thin
clothing that feels so comfortable
when the hot sun is holding forth, and
In this garb walked out this morning,
or was caught out late last night Be
cause, when all la said and done, it
was downright cold Inst night and this
morning.
Splendidly Appointed Build
ing Which Houses Ma
chinery of the Albany Pow
er a Manufacturing Co.
The big powerhouse of the Albany
Power and Manufacturing Co., on the
Muckafbonee creek, Just north of the
city, has been practically completed,
the only work remaining to be done
being the removal of debris and the
making of certain changes In the ar
rangement-of the machinery, switch
boards, etc. /
The powerhouse Is an interesting
building. From the cement floor to
the apex of the. roof la a matter of
60 feet. From a point near the main
entrance an Iron stairway leads down
Into the machinery room, where two
big generators are In position.
The house is perfectly lighted, and
the arrangement leaves nothing to be
desired. The construction of the walls
Is massive. They are ballt ot cement
reinforced with Iron, being capable ot
withstanding tremendous pressure.
Since the plant was put In operation
last October, one generator has been
continually In operations- It has run
day and night, furnishing current for
the lighting of the city’s streets and
buildings and for turning the wheele
of Industrial plants. It develops a
maximum of about 800 horsepower.
Another generator that Is the exact
duplicate ot the one put In commission
last October Is now In position, and In
a few days will relieve Its companion.
The latter will then be thoroughly
cleaned and overhauled, after which
the two will alternate in service until
the demands upon the planfbecome
sufficient to requite the simultaneous
operation ot both machines.
There are berths In the powerhouse
for two more generators, and It will
probably be but a short time before
these v^lll have to be Installed. There
will be great demand for the electric
power now available, especially when
a street car line Is put In operation.
If you are troubled with Piles and
can't find a cure, try' Witch Hazel
Salve, but be sure you get that made
by E. C. DeWitt ft Co., Chicago. It Is
the Original. If you have used WTtch
Hazel Salve without being relieved It
Is probable that you got bold ot one
of the many worthless counterfeits
that are sold on the reputation of the
genuine De Witt’s WItoh Hazel Salye.
Sold by Albany Drug Co., HllBman-
Sale Drug Co.
The drenching rainB which were
general throughout this section of the
country yesterday were badly needed
by farmers and truckers. Tbta Is
planting season, and It Is all-import
ant that there be a generous deposit
of mQlsture ln the ground when the
seed are dropped. In truck gardens,
many of the early vegetables are grow
ing nicely, and -these March rains are
the very thing to make them take on
size and etamlna In a manner to please
the glowers.
Indigestion Is much of a habit.
Don’t get the habit. Take a little Ko-
dol Dyspepsia Cure after eating and
you will quit belching, puffing, palpita
ting and frowning. Kodol Digests
what you eat and makes the stomach
sweet. Sold by Albany Drug Co., Hils-
man-Sale Drug Co. *
Those who are supposed to be wise
and to know, assert In most positive
terms that Albany will have a Btreet
ear line before many months — that
work will begin before the present
year goes Into history.
The best way to rid the system of a
cold'Is to evacuate the bowels. Ken
nedy’s Laxative Honey and Tar acts
as a-pleasant, yet effectual cathartic
on the bowels. It clears the head, cuts
the phlegm out of the throat, strength
ens the bronchial tubes, relieves
cough, colds, croup, whooping cough,
etc. Sold- by Albany Drug Co., HUs-

One of the negroes connected with
Allen’s minstrels was walking down
Washington street yesterday, wearing
a flashy blue suit; high standing collar
and derby hat, and conspicuously dis
played on his coat lapel was an elk’s
head, the emblem of the B. P. O. E.
A couple of Albany Elks saw the pin,
calmly walked up to the wearer there
of, and told him to take It off. The
negro was a little slow, and they as
sisted him.

No time will be loot In getting to
work on the high school building, now
that the contract has been awarded.
It will be the aim of the builders to
have the building ready for occupancy
at the time for the opening of the fall
term of the academy, and with reason
able luck there should be little diffi
culty In accomplishing this.
Don’t frown—look pleasant If you
are suffering from Indigestion or sour
stomach, take Kodol Dyspepsia Cure.
Hon. Jake Moore, of Atlanta, Ga.,
sayB: "I suffered more than 20 years
with Indigestion. A friend recom
mended Kodol. It relieved me In one
day and I now enjoy better health than
for many yearB.” Kodol digests what
you eat, relieves sour stomach, gas on
stomach, belching, etc. Sold by Al

The rain was so hard yesterday that!
It fairly packed the streets, and very
little mud was the result. A little,
measly, drizzling rain, long drawn out,
can do more mischief on the streets
In a few hours than a whole day of
the beating kind.
