Marks H., J. & Co. ’s 38th Annual Spring Opening
Never has a more gorgeous array been unstintingly admired. Indeed, it was a most emphatic demonstration of a
leadership which this store has always maintained and which is recognized as placing H., J. & Co.’s “Quality Store
class to itself in Southwest Georgia.

“The most beautiful opening the store has ever had.” This is the
way most of the women expressed themselves after their first bursts of
enthusiastic admiration over the wealth of loveliness that greeted them
at our formal opening of spring and summer millinery.
Even for those who expected most of us, there was surprise in the
true elegance of the goods and the unprecedented size of the stocks.
The great collection of spring and summer hats would do credit to any
city store in the South.
Miss Edwards and her assistants have been showered with congrat
ulations. The cleverness evidenced by the many attractive hats from
our own work rooms speaks more convincingly of their ability than
could we here.
Just one'suggestion to those who desire to plan their own hats.
Place your orders now before the rush of the advancing season. Our
large stock of. untrimmed shapes and beautiful trimmings, together
with the conspicuous ability of our milliners, aside from any considera
tion of prices, which are the lowest, are reasons sufficient why you
should place these orders at this store.
New Arrivals of Spring Goods Are Rounding Stocks Into Completeness
Each day brings, stacks and stacks of new suits, waists, silks, woolens, wash goods and dress accessories into the
store. Not much is lacking now to round the stocks into a completeness that will be at once gratifying to us and satify-
ing to our friends and customers.

SAVANNAH FLUNKEYS
ARE ALL AGOG.
And all Because Mrs. Rooeevelt Is £x-
pected to Paee Through That City.
The delayed shipment of tar for use
on Washington street has arrived, and
will at -once be put on the paving,
which only lacks the application of
the pitch filler to be completed.
The delay caused by the failure of
the tar to arrive caused the comple
tion of the paving contract to be held
back several days. It was an annoy
ing delay, but could not be avoided by
those in immediate charge of the
work.
This atfernpon the filler Is being
applied, and the job will certainly be
completed some time tomorrow. It
therefore appears to be certain that
the contract will be wound up In time
for Washington street to be opened
on Monday, and be free of all obstruc
tions. The tracks of the railroads at
Washington street are being lowered,
the>, grading at that point Is nearly
completed, and the time seems very
near when Albany will be able to en
joy" a celebration for which she has
been longing for several months.
Special to The Herald,
Savannah, Ga„ March 23.—Savannah
Is looking forward now to a flying
visit from Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt
wife of the President of the United
States. It Is not expected that the

a few minutes, but the fact that she Is

ably be enough to send a small dele
gatlon to the train to get a glimpse of
her. She and the smaller children
are to pass through the city enroute
to Fernandlna, Fla., whero they are to
take a yacht for a sea trip.
