NEW ORLEAN8 COTTON LETTER
By wire to Clark & Co.
New Orleans, March 31.—Liverpool
failed to furnish our market with any
news this morning, consequently no
light was up on the construction placed
by the foreign market on yesterday’s
events beyond a full response to our
advance by options closing as due, 7
to 8 points up. Sales of spots, 7,000
bales, 4 points higher.
Values on the opening of the local
market showed no material deviation
from yesterday’s closing prices and
the only change seemed to come later
In the session when a small amount
of liquidation, of nn Inconsequent long
Interest,' which, owing to the narrow
ness of the market, caused a little
easiness, otherwise there was little
of Interest to chronlclo except the
visible supply statement. That took
on a more bullish aspect when, owing
to the correction of the takings by the
Bremen mills, spinners’ takings for
the week were Increased from 213,000
to 255,000. The absonce of outside
speculation wns keenly felt and the
market la consequence has lapsed in
to a state of quietude from which only
now and then it Is rudely awakened
by manipulation, but prico changes
occur In erratic line and tile market
hesitates, ponding the assumption of n
more definite course.
Yours very truly,
GIBERT & CLAY.

The British market was all she
should have been. Futures were 7 to
8 higher, while sales were 7,000, which
is not bad for half a day.
Cables explain the comparatively
light sales by saying the offerings are
limited. Merchants there appear to
be holding.
Chronicle reported the week as gen
erally unfavorable for preparation.
Looks as If the market can take care
of itself without assistance from any
one.
In the early trading prices were very
steady, but later on' room traders suc
ceeded In hammering May to 11.15.
A recount of the Bremen stock
shows same to be 62,000 leBS than ex
pected.
The presence of Carolina brokers in
Oklahoma and the Territory, search
ing for desirable lots, shows a dis
tressing shortage among Southern
spinners.
Both Hayne & Brown were active
bidders for July in the New Orleans
ring.

German spinners were reported as
good buyers.
New Orleans and Galveston both re
ported “no uneasiness among spot
holders. They feel sure of their posi
tion, and say buyers will have to come
to their prices In the end.”
The expectancy at New Orleans, Gal
veston and Houston for Monday Is
only about one-third as much as last
year.
The net decline for the day Is 7 to 8
points.
The in-slght figures are just 1,280,000
short of last year. The decrease from
this time on will be very.marked. By
June the total will he about ten mil
lion.
Next week promises to be very ac
tive.
Superior Court
Dougherty Superior Court will not
convene Monday until shortly before
noon. Judge Spence will not arrive
from Camilla until 111:35, and it will

CANNING FACTORY
SEEKS LOCATION HERE.
Will Come to Albany tf It Can Get
Fruits and Vegetables.
Parties of experience In the canning
business are desirous of locating a
canning factory in Albany.
The Albany Business League has
received a number of letters for those
who are interested in bringing this
enterprise to Albany, and the canning
plant will come if assurance can he
given that the territory contiguous to
Albany will furnish the vegetable pro
ducts necessary to supply the plant.
Secretary Betjeman, of the Business
League, is therefore anxious to hear
immediately from farmers, truckers
and even small gardeners on this
point. How many growers of fruits
and vegetables are there who will
agree to supply a canning factory with
tomatoes, corn, beets, beans, peas,
strawberries, peaches, pears, plums,
blackberries, asparagus—any or all of
these?
An answer will have to be given the
promoters of this canning factory
scheme at once, so it is hoped that
those to whom this communication is
addressed will Immediately supply the
desired information to Secretary Bet
jeman.
The canning factory wants to come
to Albany, and will come if assured
of support. Otherwise, it will be lo
cated somewhere else.
