It was sad to look at. The Cordele
kids simply had on their batting
clothes. The slaughter was terrible.
It was an off day for Boyd, and surely
it was an on day for Lavender. The
folks In Cordele almost worship him—
and there’s h reason.
The game was too one-sided to be
Interesting. Still, we can’t win all.
The boys seemed to lose confidence
when Boyd was tapped so freely, and
dldnt play, up> to their usual standard.
| Snodgrass In left pulled In a pretty
one. Eldred hit a nice one to center
for two sacks. Beyond that there were
only four solitary hits for Albany. On
thfi other side the stick work was mag
nificently realistic and heart-breaking.

to knock yesterday. If you hear any

Dick Reed, a> former South Carolina
college player, has been released from
Columbus, at his own request. As an
amateur Reed played good "ball.

Rain Prevents Columbus Game.

Columbus, May 4.—The Columbus-
Americus game here yesterday was
prevented on account of rain.
Valdosta, 3; Waycross, 2.

Valdosta, Ga., May 4.—The opening
game of the Georgia State Baseball
League In this city yesterday after
noon, Valdosta vs, Waycross, was one
of the prettiest games ever seen here,
the score,belpg 3 to 2 in favor of Val
dosta, The work of both teams was
of a high order, the men playing with
a snap and brilliancy that captivated
the. spectators.
At the end of the eighth Inning the
score was 2 to 2, the game being won
for Valdosta In the ninth when Tide-
man hit a 3-bagger ahd was brought
In by Weakley after two men were
out Waycross scored In the first and
eighth Innings, and Valdosta In the
third, fifth and ninth. Valdosta made
5 errors and 8 hits, and Waycross 3
errors and t hits. CasBldy and Wal
ters for Valdosta, and Beusse and
Tribble for Waycross, were the bah
terles, LaMotte's heavy hitting fdr
Valdosta was a feature of the game
that excited much admiration.
Waycross sent over a special train
load of rooters, and the Valdostans
were cheered to victory by several
hundred of their admirers. The at
tendance was good and the afternoon
an Ideal one for the game.
