Liverpool responded nobly to the ad
vance In the American markets yester
day, and bought 12,000 bales at an ad
vance of 4< points. Trading In the
American rings was again on a limited
scale. In the early trading brokers
with wire house connections had cot
ton for sale, but the offerings were
quickly and eagerly absorbed by bro
kers who are supposed to be acting
for the "bull clique.” Crop advices
continue of the most favorable tenor,
and a continuance of same would no
doubt cause the more distant positions
to sell as low as 10 cents, but at this
figure, whli^h discounts a crop of al
most bumper proportions, we would
advise great caution on the short side.
Spinners’ stocks will be reduced to
almost famine proportions before re
lief can come from the new crop, and
with the certainty of n good yield still
a "wild guess’ It looks the part of.
wisdom to take a conservative view of
the situation. At anything like a
reasonable price spinners will take ad
vantage of the situation to lay In sup-
plies sufficient to tide them over short
crop and other scares, so on Its merits
the market and the range of values for
the next twelve months might be said
to favor the long side.
