A number of prominent officials of the Seaboard Air Line railway spent some time in Albany yesterday after noon. The party was headed by the new president of the system, Alfred Walters, nnd included Goneral Sup erintendent C. H. Hix, Chief Engineer W. L. Sedden, Division Superinten dent H. B. Grimshaw and Assistant General Freight Agent L. E. Chalenor. President T. Edward Hambleton, of the Albany & Northern, who la a di rector of the Seaboard, was also with the party. The officials arrived on a special over the Albany & Northern and de parted over the Seaboard about 5:30 p. ni. for Richland and Columbus. Railway officials are seldom com municative, and to inquiries as to the object of their visit yesterday reply was made that it was simply a trip of inspection by the new president of the ! Seaboard. That President Hambleton, pf the Albany & Northern, uhould be with the party seemed to be the most natural thing In the world. The party was driven all over the city, t.nd those who had not baen liete before in several years expreesed sur prise at the numerous evidences of Albany’s growth and substantial de velopment. While no member of the party would discuss any of the plans of the Sea board with reference to this section, their presence here and their detailed Inspection of Albany and her sur roundings naturally cause a renewal of speculation in this direction. The Seaboard and Albany & Northern have for a number of years been using the same tracks in the local yards, and their local freight business is con ducted through the same depot. The Seaboard is perhaps the most aggres sive system in the South, and It would be surprising h its plans did not con template taking advantage of some of the splendid opportunities presented in this vicinity. In the absence of any definite state ment or information, all conclusions in the premises must be the result of speculation, however, though it would surprise no one if the development of important plans should be reported In the not distant future. Atlanta, Ga., May 11.—Because he shot Drew Jett, a former electrician, while Jett was talking over a ’phone in a saloon In the Prudential building, Jeff Harbin, p well-known member of the local sporting.fraternity, must pay a fine of $500, which wa§ ordered against him by Judge Roan in the criminal branch of the Fulton superior court. This was the decision yester day of the Georgia supreme court. Harbin got Into a row with several men in the saloon and drew his re volver. He fired several shots which failed to reach the mark. Then his pistol was pointed at Jett. The shot which was fired hit Jett in the neck. The saloon was crowded and there was a general stampede to get out. When the case was tried Harbin was fined. He took the case to the higher court. This morning Officers McCaskill and Lynch arrested Crawford and Su sie Ross, negro man and wife. They are In jail on the charge of bigamy.; It is not an ordinary sort of case. I Generally In a case like this only one is guilty of desiring more than one partner, but both Susie and Crawford have each another partner somewhere on the outside.
