shop and could not be out It Is ex
pected, though, that tomorrow It will
be In order and out on the streets as
usual. The authorities are making
every effort to abate the dust nuis

NEW YORK COTTON LETTER,
(By Wire to Clerk & Co.)
New York, May 16.—Nothlnyhas oc
curred to phange the conclusions from
the analysis of the cotton market of
last week. Nearby cotton is in good
demand and Increasing supply and at
many points In the Interior the buying
basis Improved. The new crop Is pro
gressing and as a whole its environ
ment oauld hardly be better, it Has
started well and Is clean, with Ideal
weather for a tap root.
In some parts of Alabama, southern
Arkansas and Louisiana conditions are
not so favorable, and these reports are
made the basis for sensational an
nouncements by local bulls, especially
by cable to England and the continent.
Traders hold to their conservative at
titude and with an open mind to act
upon reliable information and develop
ments either for higher or lower
prices. Yours truly,
C. D. FREEMAN & CO.

On a day as dusty as this one Is, the
pedestrian hates the carriages that
whirl around town in the late after
noon with a desperate, helpless hatred.
The dust that they whirl up envelopes
him all over—and If he Is unwise
enough to open his mouth—all inner.
What do the heartless ones In the
vehicles care? High and dry above
the storm they converse, and even
dare to laugh, a thing forbidden to the
man on foot, unless he is willing to
swallow a little dirt.
