Misses Bessleiand Julia Surles spent

the schools at that place, and was go
ing home for the summer.
Several of the young people enjoyed
a straw ride to Palmyra last night. It
was gotten up in honor of Miss Fannie
Josephs, of Columbus, the' attractive
guest of Miss Annie Hobbs. The par
ty consisted of Misses Fannie Josephs,
Renle Tift, Florence Davis, Mattie
Bush, Annie Bull, Ethel Bush and Car
oline Pinkston; Messrs. Tom Calla
way, R. M. Smith, Jake Ventulette,
Palemon Hilsman, James Armstrong,
Ben Lockett and Chovine Walters.
Miss Annie Hobbs and Capt. Paul
Brown chaperoned. The occasion was
an altogether enjoyable one and this
impromptu event will be long remem
bered with pleasure by those who par
ticipated in it.
Mrs. C. A. Wllborn, who has been
visiting relatives in the city, returned
to her home in Sasser today.
Mr. J.. R. Hackett is In the city to
day, having stopped over with his fam
ily while on his way to his home in
Moultrie from a trip, north.
Messrs. C. W. and F. R. Pidcock, of
Moultrie, spent yesterday afternoon in
Albany.
Mrs. John D. Twiggs entertained the
Northside Euchre Club yesterday af
ternoon at the home of Mrs. W. S.
Tarver, on Tift street, and the occas
ion added another to the long series
of most delightful gatherings of an
exceedingly popular social organiza
tion. The first prize was won by Mrs.
M. W. Tift, and Mrs. Sol Hoge cap
tured the second prize.
Miss Ruth Zeigler, who was the
guest of Miss Helen Crews here for
several weeks, Is visiting Miss Mc
Lean in Thomson.
Prof. A. J. Barwlck, principal of the
Albany Academy, will spend two
weeks in ’Albany before returning to
his home In Kenston, N. C. He will
also attend the State Teachers' Asso
ciation at Cumberland Island before
he reaches his home.
Miss Helen Crews returns today
from a visit to friends In Macon.
Mr. Henry Fain, of Atlanta, Is in
town today.
Mr. R. Frank Evans, of Charleston,
Is among the out-of-town people here
