The Academic Department will consist of those who are preparing
• for admission into this or any other College.
; The Primary Department will be composed of those pursuing the or
. dimity branches of an English education.
j The students in these two departments, as well as the Collegiate,
j v. ill lie instructed by the Faculty of the College.
| 1 n consequence oi this arrangement, boys, in the early stage of their
i lit* 1 -ary coin''*.', will eojoy advantages pet II ips tinsurpa—ed in this couu
j try,as they will he taught by a regular Faculty, while the students of
: the College will receive the full amount of instruction ordittaiily given
' them, as will be seen by a reference to their course of study.
I This system will vastly increase the labor of the Faculty ; this labor
they have however consente i to undergo.
The adoption ofthis new plan has been caused by the peculiar state
:of the times. Though the amount on our stihscriptiou list is sufficient
to warrant the commencement of the work in its oi ig-nal form, vet from
the present state of affairs, it would have been more than indelicate to
call upon many individuals for their subscriptions. On the othei hand,
many parents have been making their arrangements to send their sons
to Midway, during the next year. Such persons it would be painful to
. disappoint, ye’ it would be impossible to proceed for w ant of funds in
hand. The course now aiinotmced as being adopted, was then propo
sed—that is. to bring the Academy and College under the govermiicnt
and instruction of the same President and Professors. By this arrange
ment the expenses ot the Institution w ill be sustained, and all difficulties
in its w ay removed.
The Board ol Trustees take ibis occasion to say, that after this
year the Stew ard’s Hall will he discontinued. This is done, that there
I may be no hindrance in the way of such persons as may wishto move to
: .Midway for tbe purpose of taking hoarders.
The Trusteescloie thiscommuuicaiion by suggesting to parents, (who
I desire their children to be educated, and who cannot afford to send
I them abioad for this purpose) the propriety of settling themselves at
Midway. By taking boarders, the expenses of their family could ho
more than sustained, and their children of all ages receive a thorough
and finished education. To olheis disposed to turn their attention to
keeping boarders ns a business, we would suggest th it Midway offers
inducements inferior to few ifany other positions at the South—a heal
thy and delightful location, and as many boarders as they may be able
to accommodate. By order of the Executive Committee.
