1828. Or. It. look I is -e it in Confess as a Representative i
from Georgia. while laboring under protracted btlltous disease, ,
the consequence of a severe attack ot lever m the cotiise ol
the previous autumn. H iving exhausted the usual remedies
without relief, he determined to try the effect of combining a
number of well known medicines, with the separate action of
each he had been familiarly acquainted in his prrfession.il
course of more than I w enty years. These medicines so com
bil. compose Ins ANTI- DYSPEI’ I' IC AND ANTI
BILI.IOUS P 11.1.5. Ils proceed <1 to take, as directed for
dyspepsia and other chronic diseases requiring action on the
bowels, one pill at bed lime, which he contmued to repeat
nightly for about a week, at which time he was as free fiom
billions disease as if he had never been afflicted with it. On
his return to Georgia in the spring of 1829, in consequence of
the signal benefit lie bad derived from tin pills, hr preseiibed
them for his brother, who had been laboring tinder dyspepsia
and liver complaint from the autumn of 1823, in consequence
of a severe nod protracted attack ot bi lions fever. Ilis health
began immediately to improve, and has been restored by them
in the manner stated in his certificate. The pills were pro
•eribed to others laboring under chronic billions affections,
upon the confidence inspired by their success in the foregoing
cases. mini those eases became so numerous, that appl.cations
w.'ic annually marie to Dr. II from 1835 to I'3B inclusive,
when about to depart for Washington, for from twenty to fitly
dozen ns a supply during his absence, by persons who
had tested their virtues So tar. no serious thought
was entertained of offering them to the public at large, as the
supply h id been liir.i oil to the range of his private practice
Nor did Dr. If. consent to prepare and offer them for genera!
use, until two or three years after he had been urged to do so.
by those who had been signally benefited by them. When
first used by himself, he supposed their application would be
confined to cases of chronic bdliuus disease, and it was not un
til alter more than ten years experience of their use in many
of the varieties of chronic, and some of the more violent acute
febrile diseases, that he became convinced, as he now is. that
they possess greater merit in all cases requiring either mild or
vigorous action upon the bowels, than any other known rem
edy. As an alterative or mild aperient, they answer must ef
fectively, the indication stated by Dr. James Johnson in his
admirable wuik mi the morbid irritability of the stomach and
bowels, by producing usually ■•hut otic evacuation daily, and
that «f a solid, rather than a liquid consistence." Nor is it
difficult to account t'oi their ntot/us oprrony/f. Mere evacuaiits
operate by stimulating the mucous membrane of tile stomach
ami bowels, without affecting the organs essential to healthv
digestion, and although they procure temporary relief, the dis
eased secretions grow worse instead of better. These pills
Combine th.- most gentle action upon the mucous coat with
mt efficient ami healthy influence upon the liver and olheror
( ins of the digestive apparatus, ami, consequently operate in
the mildest manner, and not only give present relief, but w hen
•tea illy persevered in. a permanent cu.e.
Not are they less effit i nt in fever and other acute diseases
requiring active purgation, by increasing the dose as diiected,
causing the double operation of more vigorous action on the
bowels, and proportionality stimulating the liver and otheroi
g'His to mure healthy secretions justifying the confident opin
ion, not niily entertained by the inventor, but by many who
lune u-ed iliciii. that they approach more nearly to the char
acter us a universal remedy tu the cases indicated, that* any
oilier known medicine
it is not deemed necessary to specify the various disorders
for the relief us which they are applicable, but the following
are enumerated as some of them: Dyspepsia, sick head ache,
liver complaint, asthma, habitual or casual co-tiveness. Diar
rhea, heart-burn, cholic, sour stomach, billions fever, female
obstructions. &c., &c In short, in every disease requii iug
action mi the bowels. Not is it the smallest recommendation,
that in dyspepsia*, liver oomplaints, and other chronic diseases,
a single pill is, generally dose. They are pecu
liarly adapted to the condition of all persons of sedentary ha
bits, either male orfemale, who. with scatcely a solitary ex
caption, suffer ftom a sluggish state of the bowels Thev tire
also recommended as particularly convenient to the traveller
in warm climates, or seasons, and for the use of large fami
lies. the dose being so easily adjusted, especially when resi
ding at a distance from the experienced physician.
The iuyentor asks his his own fellow citizens to give the
pills a fair trial—pledging himself if they will do so. that they
will not tail to obtain the confidence, and preference ' of ninety
nine out of a hundred, m nine hundred aud niiiety-niue out
of a thousand. As an alterative, or mild aperient, for correct
ing habitual or casual turpi lily of the bowels, one pill taken
at bed tim > is the proper dose, without the necessity of chan
ging ordinary habits of living If one should fail to produce
the desired effect, it is better to repeat it for two or three suc
cessive nights, than to aid its operation by taking any thing
else.
For billions fever. or other acute disease requii ing active
purgation, one pill repeated every hour or tw o, until the de
sired effect is produced, is the li st mode of administering them.
The subjoined certificates sufficiently attest the efficacy of
these pills.

I certify, that I have used Doct. ('. E. Haynes’ Anti-Dys

be the best remedy, that I have ever yet tried, for Dyspepsia
and Asthma. I have tried Ghallagban’s, Beckwith’s, Bran

Dr. C. E. Hayses:—Dear Sir—Aly attention was direct
ed tu your Pills a litile more than a year since, by Col. Shiv

and given them to my family with the most happy results.
AA’nh me they have removed costiveness, checked effectu
ally dianhea. and taken off bile as fully as calomel, w ithout
producing the unpleasant effect that is usually produced by
that valuable medicine. 1 therefore believe them a valuable
medicine, and would recommend a trial of them, at least.

1 am pleased with the opportunity of adding my testimony
to the value of Dr. Haynes' A.xti-Dy.speptic Pills.
I have used them occasionally for more than a year past,
in ordinary diseases of the stomach and bowels, with the hap
piest effects; and recently, in a sharp intermittent bilious le
vel. which was entirely eradicated by them, in three or font
days without the aid of any other medicine, and cheerfully
recommend them as admirably adapted to the cure of dys
peptic and bilious diseases. WM McMUli II AY.
Having been recently attacked with strong bilious symp

entirely relieved me. and which 1 do not hesitate to recoin
