Harrison. ! send you « few lines respecting the almost mi
ractsleu* effect* of yo»r pills; and I would add, that you
may make use of there, in connection with tny name, in any
manner you deem proper. I speak of their merits ftotn ex
perience, as I and my faintly have taken upwards of thirty
boxes in three yeais; and so great are the benefits we
have received from them in general, th t I w ould rather pur
chase them nt ten dollars a box than have my house without
them. I will not enumerate the afflictions they have rcliev
ed a* of; but I ean assure yon they were many, aud as very
opposite nature*, which Ims felly proved to <ne that your
medicine is a sitnp'e pmificr of the system, and therefore
equally the enemy of every disease. I will mention one case
I have a sister who had been tor a long period severely as
flicted with dropsy in the chest and was brought by it to the
verge of the grave. She was attended by the most eminent
physicians that money could procure; but nil their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffering* weie
fruitless ; and accordingly, we all considered her immediate
death ss inevitable. By good fortune, however, as she was
in this situation, expecting every day to be Irer last, your
pill* were introduced into my family, and so speeds' and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly relieved her,
and in less than three months she was perfectly restored to
health. The case. I and ail who were witness of it, but (mote
especially lhe suffering party,) considered to be the next thing
to mtrcculoti*; and yet ( could mentfon many more of an
equally desperate nature, in w hich your pills were equally sue
ce.**lul in rescuing the patient* from the jaws of death. Ner d
I add that the popularity of your medicine amount* to enthu
siasm ia this section of the country ? Rut this I presume
voa knew from the immense quantity you dispose of. I mav
oenttou, however, that notwithstanding its general u«o, I
never heard an individual complain of it* effect*. My resi
dence is 12 miles from Raleigh on the read to Fayetteville,
i am with sentiments of regard, your ob't servant.

first used by himself, he supposed their application would be

they possess greater merit in all eases requiring either <&!d .or

edy. As an alterative or mild ajiericitt, they answer most ef
fectively, the indication dated by Dr. Janies Johnson in hi*
admirable work on the morbid irritability of the stomach and
bowels, by producing usually "but one evacuation daily, and
that «f a solid, rather than a liquid consistence.” Nor is it
difficult to account for their stedus oytrandi. Mere rvn tu»t«
operate by stimulating the mucous membrane of the stomu-'lt
and bowels, without affecting the organs essential to healtliy
digestion, and although they procure temporary relief, the dis
eased secretions grow worse instead of better. Ttir.e pills
combine the most gentle aetiou upon the mucous coat with

It i* not deemed necessary to specify the various disorders
for the relief of which they are applicable, but the following
are eniimernted a* same of them: Dyspepsia, sick head ache,
liver complaint, asthma, habitual or casualcn-tiveness, Diar
rheea. heart burn, cholic, sour stomach, hillibu* fever, teinaie
obstructions, &c,, &c. In short, iti every disease requiring
action on the bow els. Nor is it the smallart rccoiahiendatmti
that in dyspepsia, liver oomphtiut*. and cthor chronic discu'es
a single pill is. generally, a snflicient dose. They are pecu
liarly adapted to the coricitioc of all persons ol sedentary ba
bits, either male er female, who. with scatcely a solitary ex
ceptimi, suffer fti>m a sluggish state of the liow els. Tbev are
also recommended a* particularly convenient to the traveller
in warm climates, nr seasons, and for the use of large fami
lies, thu dose being so easily adjusted, especially when resi
ding at a distance from tire experienced physician.

pills a fair trial—pledging himself if they will do so. that they

found my system greatly relieved, and by their occasional
use. for a few months, was restored to an excellent state of
health, which I have ever since enjoyed in a very high-degree.
I have used them with great effect in my own family, in
cases of billions fever, dyspepsia and cholic, and confidently
recommend them as an invaluable remedy.

tice. I have therefore thought proper to issue this my Proc
lamation hereby offering a reward of ONE HUNDRED
and FIFTY DOLLARS, to nny person or persons who
may apprehend and deliver said James Shern to the Sheriff
or Jailor of Sumter county, mid I do moreover charge and
require all officers Civil atifl Military within this State to be
vigilant in endeavoring to apprehend the said James Shera
if to be found within the same, so that he may undergo a trial
for the crime es which he is charged-
