No. 29-ti.
SLIP-MIL OlifiSlu!S^_
—We see improvements still going
on at Cook Bros, saw mill. A live firm
that.
—Lovers of genuine bologna sau
sage can be supplied by calling on
friend Herzog on the Bay.
—Times are hard and money tight
but some of our merchants give good
accounts of last week’s sales. We con
gratulate them.
—We hear of a “bucket company”
in connection with the fire depart,
incut. Can’t we have a “hook and
ladder,” too?
—The “Oceanic” ball, last Thurs
day night, is pronounced a success bv
those who were present. Long live
the Oeeanics.
—The neat, trim steam yacht “Sky
lark,” owned by Lorillard, the fa.
mous tobacco merchant, paid our har
bor a visit fast week, en route to Flor
ida. Those who were permitted to
peep in, represent her as being as
nice as a new pin.
* —As the season advances the supply
Jof wild ducks increases. Seven were
killed on Saturday last by our young
friend James Nelson. If he wasn’t
such a bashful young man, we might
have dined on duck last Sunday.
—Our reuders will please excuse alj
shortcomings of the Advertiser in
point of locals and news items. A press
of job work recently, is our excuse.
Continue to bear with us, friends, we
hope to do better some day.
—The November term of Superior
Court of this county convened yester
day—His Honor, Judge J. L. Harris,
presiding.' We learn from the Clerk
that there are on the Docket 125 civil,
and 35 criminal cases for trial.
—The N. Y. Steamer failed to touch
here this week, being behind time on
account of unfavorable winds. Her
freight and passengers were sent up
from Femandinn, however, by anoth
er steamer. We hope the arrange
ments spoken of some time since will
be entered into at an early day.
—What has become of the fraction
al currency, since the B. & A. R. R.
bills came out? Merchants find some
trouble in the matter of change. We
hope this money will be put on a good,
fair, square, Greenback basis, or retir
ed as soon as possible. We have had
trouble enough in this w<iy.
—Soda water, without loe, at 6cta. per glass,
at LEBEN'8, on the Bay.
—Apple Cidor,/reah and nlee, at
LEBER'S, on the Bay,
—The friends of Mr. and Mr. Wm.
Nightengale will be pained to hear of
1 the death of their little son. In com
pany with other members of the fam
ily, the little one was returning home
from a visit North, where he had been
taken for the benefit of his health,
when a “run off” occurred, instantly
killing him and wounding other pas
sengers.
Stricken parents,
"Weep not for theae
Who link within the arms of death,
Ere yet the chilling wintry breath
Of sorrow o’er them blows."
—To morrow (‘.:5th) is Thanksgiv.
ings day. A happy time to all our
readers.
—The members of the Presbyterian
Church of this city are requested to
meet at the church on Friday night
next, (26th) at 7} o’clock, to consider
future action of the church in relation
to securing a pastor. A full meeting
is desired.
—There will be a meeting of the
members of the * ‘Eastern Star Degree”
of Ocean Lodge at their room, on to
morrow (Thursday) night, at r. m.
Master Masons, in good and regular
standing, aud their wives, together
with their daughters and sisters, over
18 years of age, are invited to attend.
—The Brunswick Amateur Club will
give an entertainment some night this
week (notice of which will be given
by posters) for the benefit of the Bap
tist Church of this city. The choir of
the Methodist Church, assisted by a
few others, will furnish music for the
occasion. The last entertaiment giv.
en by the Club was spoken of iu tho
highest terms by those who were pres
ent. Encourage them by your pres'
ence.
Dialogue.—Husband—“Wife, the
casing of this bologna sansage is very
tough. I can’t chew it. ”
Wife—“Of course not, dear. It is
encased in cloth.”
Sequel—he wilted, and she smiled.
“Household.”—We welcome the
above monthly on our exchange list.
It is without doubt, vre think, the
best published, for the money. It is
a twenty-four page sheet, with nine
different departments, and ought to
be read by every mother and house
keeper in the land. Subscription—
$1.10. Published by Geo. E. Crowel,
Brattleboro, Yt.
Datt.1t Communication With Flor
ida —We hear it rumored that ar
rangements have been made with the
Bteamer Olyphant to ply daily between
this city and Fernandina, thus closely
connecting our R. R. lines with the
Florida & Cedar Keys line, and offer
ing to the traveling public a pleasant
and varied trip to the “land of flow
ers. Numbers prefer land travel from
the fact that they object seriously to
the treatment received from Mother
Ocean. This route would give them
a short trip by water, by way of vary
ing the monotony of railroad travel,
and an opportunity to snuff the sea
air, and at the same time keep out of
reach of old Neptune.
Consolidated Depot.—Messrs. Lit.
tlefield & Tyson, successors to S. C.
Littlefield & Co., have commenced
work on ihe new R. E. depot, and ware,
house, and will push forward the work
with vigor. A two story front will be
put on the present warehouse, on
Dart’s wharf, for offices, passenger
rooms, etc., besides other and larger
accommodations for freight, local and
otherwise.
this will be a good move in many
respects, but we still hold that it is an
abandonment of the original project
of a deep water terminus.
I —Mr. Frank Hall has put up a fruit
and vegetable stand on the Bay, nea r
Herzog’s corner. Ho keeps excellent
fruit and fresh vegetables, nnd sells at
living prices. Call on him.
REMOVAL.-
Tho Offlco of the Southern Express Co. has been
