—Rev. Mr. Holemun will preach in
the Episcopal chijrch next Sabbath.
—Read card of W. S. Tucker in this
issue. -He is a superior workman.
—19 vessels in port to day, and yet
people will grumble.
—Excuse small amount of reading
matter this week,
again.
—Mr. W. W. Wilder of Albany,
Ga., and Miss Laura Meador of thi 8
city were married last week.
—Capt. Grant, Snpt. M. & B. R.
R., lias been in town this week, com
pleting his through-line arrangements
for Florida travel.
—The handsome new steamer Da
vid Clarke bus taken the place of the
Florence, which is off for repairs. We
will soon have two steamers on this
route, we hear.
—The steamship City of Dallas will
touch here this week, we learn, on her
way to New York. Movements are on
foot looking to a regular line.
—Alderman Bostwick has been busy
*or a week past superintending the
cleaning out of the underbrush east
of the M. & B. R. R., in accordance
with recommendations of our Board of
Health.
—So me folks seem to think we are
so depraved as to charge for subscrip
tions and advertising during our sus
pension. Don’t be alarmed, gentle
men, we shan’t cheat you. You shall
lose nothing by the operation.
—Fish! Fish! Fish! Htill they comet
Besides six or seven shousand- black
flsh received from the '‘Banks” by
Messrs. Woodward & Prince, the an
glers and harpooners have been vigo
rously at work raking them in—and,
wc are glad to say, all sold readily.
—Messrs. Littlefield & Tison believe
in having light on the subject. With
six large lumps arid reflectors to light
up their wharf, passengers need not
go astray in changing from boat to
cars. Wish we had ninety -two more
just such firms—men who create busi
ness.
—The Louisville through passenger
sleeping cars will ran hereafter over
the M. & B. R. R- to this city, instead
of taking the Gnlf Road at Jesnp.
thence to Florida by the J. P. k M.
R. R. The reason assigned for the
change is the number of “ran offs”
recently on the Florida road—only
twelve, we learn. Polnce cars are too
costly for such fun.
—We are pained to record the death
of little Annie, (fonr years old) daugh
ter of Mr. Marshal B. Holland of our
city. About ten days since she was in
the kitchen with a servant. The lat
ter went out for some purpose, when
the little one took fire, in some way,
from the stove. She screamed for
help, and rushed upstairs, where she
was met by her mother, who threw
something around her and patent the j
flames, batahw! too late. After lin* i
geriug three days, she died, The
stricken parents have our deepest sym-
patby.
—Drs. Logan, McClellan, and
j Cromwell, of the State .Board of
; Health,, were here yesterday investi-
! gating* the causes of the late epidemic,
i We wiU give their report next week.
Is your life worth 10 cents.
