Sunday in the Home.
We knovr a botishold in which tha
Sunday is hardly over before the lit
tle ones begin the inquiry, “Mam
ma, when w ill it be Sunday again?’*
To these children, Sunday is the
“red-letter” day of the week, looked
forward to, and backward to, on ev
ery other day. And this becauso
they have their father at home all
day. This wise father makes Sun
day the children’s day. He dismiss
es his business cares, gathers his
children aliout him, listens to their
histories of the week, reads to them,
or talks to them, or walks with
them. He is making beautiful asso
ciations to cluster about this beauti
ful day.
This should be tho day of daysiu
every household. Six days muBt the
bread aud butter be earned, aud the
bread and butter bo prepared, the
raiment taken thought of and tho
raiment attached. Six days must
the fathers and sons and daughters
and little children goabroad to their
work aud their lessons. Bat then
conies the seventh day, the beauti
ful Sunday, in which business may
bo set aside, the lessons dismissed,
husbands and wives, parents and
children, brothers and sisters reuni
ted. Let this day be consecrated to
all that is highest and best in our
nature, to thanksgiving and aspira
tion, and to tho development in tho
home of those spiritual graces which
make our hoin.-s heavenly plucts.
Wise parents will make the day sa
bright and sweet with their joy in
their children, theirsympathetic con
versation, their choice books, their
songs, and their bits of poetry, that
those who canto to tho henrthstona
weary or discouraged will be renew
ed and cheered for tho work of tha
coming week, aud all will bear in
tbeir hearts a bright memory to
shino on them iu all cloudy weath
ers.
