the (*oast and wire-grass is not for
Norwood, nor did .1 im Blue tell
Adams that his friendship and in
fluence would lx* against Colquitt.
Having l>een in the Legislature
with Col. Adams, after the tqxxik-
ing was over, he went up and shook
hands with him, and congratulated
him on the effort-—just exactly as
did the editor of this paper—hut
he never told him he was against
Colquitt, or else,we* misunderstood
his language. “ Rasp’* should con
fine himself to the facia as they oc
curred. Here is the extract:
“ Norwood’s strength is increas
ing rapidly. He will carry a ma

the Colquittites can nut this tact in
their pipes snd smoke it.
“At the conclusion of the sink
ing on yesterday, Hon. Jos. Blue,
ex Republican Representative from
this county, heartily congratulated
Hon. Pratt Adams on his speech,
and unsolicited announced that his
friendship and influence are and
will l>c against Colquitt, lie is a
quiet, modest, debt-paying, hard
working colored citizen, conserva

sin^ that Georgia may have an
honest, clean-handed and efficient
administration.”

The jxilities of this State are cer
tainly in a terrible.i middle. From
mountain to sea there seems to he
a spirit of restiveness under re
straint—an inclination to throw off
the party yoke and lauueh out
ones own )>opulnrity. Dr. Felton
started the hall in his district in
the inountainsfand it is rolling on
and has finally reached the sea
shore and started back on its re
bound. Georgia |>olitics are, to-day,
in a deplorable fix Who knows
what will he the result? This spir
it of indejiendentism is spreading
all over the State, and men run for
office regardless of consequences;
any of them w ithout even the
ghost of a chance for election, still
they make the run. Tire spirit
evinced seems to l>e “if I can’t, you
shan’t.” The harmony of the par
ty has thus been broken, ami its
strength and usefulm-ss impaired.
We are glad to state, however, that
Georgia is solid on National |x>litirs.
Hancock and Englfsh will get a
rousing vote.
