Net Lost.
Onr fish dealer, Mr. A II. Trufford,
met with a heavy loss this week. He
had just received a new gill-net of
about one thousand feet in length and
f*nt it out in charge of his fishermen,
’lie fishermen returned without the
net, and stated that it had gotten away
rom them and sunk. At this writing

fforts have been made to secure it. —
This will be a severe loss to Mr. T., as
cost $70.
As wo go to press, we b arn that the

Public Speaking, Etc.
! On Tuesday last, in company witl
several Brunswick gentlemen, we cm

Waycross to witness the discussion !>e
tween Cols. Styles, Mabry, Atkinson
and Adams.
Nought transpire*! along the route
to deserve special attention, a
fact that gt various stations we got off
and mingled with the crowd, and, wt
are happy to state met very few Nor
wood men; almost every one pro
claimed himself a Colquitt man, out
and ont.
We were pleased to note evidences
of improvement along the line siuec
onr last trip. Severul neat ware hous

authorities, and new turpentine farms
opened up and stills erected. At Ho

Shortly after reaching Waycross
wo wended onr way to the elegant

of boys, and soon the war of words lie-

then Col. Mabry, next Col. Spencer
Atkinson, and lastly Col. Pratt Adams.
For an honr each did tlieso orators
ponr forth their wit and wisdom, with
the usual result. We feel safe in say
ing there wasn’t a convert made cither
way. With the best light Indore os,
we should judge the crowd was about
equally divided between Norwood and
Colquitt. From citizens of the town
we learn' flint Waycross proper is

OBITUARY.
We Imvo to record another of those
sad dispositions of Divine Providence
whichever and anon occur, reminding
us of the uncertainty of life.
Judge George B. Williamson, of
Waycross, a bright and shiuing light
of onr circuit bar, a gentleman in the
true Reuse of the word, a man of varied
attainments, spotless integrity, ami
profound ability as a lawyer, has pass
ed away from this world, which has
for years past been an abode of pain
and tronbio. to the grave.
Ripe iu years and usefulness, devot
ed to the interests of his section of the
State, known throughout the length
and breadth of soatheoatern ami south
western Georgia, a praaticioner iu all
the courts of that section for over
thirty yeurs, he hod formed a wide rc
qunint.inco, which, iu every individu
ul instance within the writer’s know!
dge, had grown and expanded iuto
arm aud lasting friendship. The
Bar, who met him at the courts, and
w him Intimately, knew, perhaps,
as the outside world did not and could
not, his great worth.
As the paper is just going to press,
is impossible to enlarge upon the
life mid services of this our brother,
has gone before us to the bourne
from which no traveler returns. Tru
ly death has been busy in onr ranks
—-Thoiuas E. Davenport, A. J. Smith,
Jones, Judge Harris—nil friends of
Judge Williamson—and now he, too,
is gone. Who will be next ?
To the family of the deceased the
sympathy of his friends, who were
many, is sincerely extended in this
hour of afllictiuii.
