IMPEOVEHBXTS IS OUR HARBOR*
The Work Going Ahead.
.We hare hod several inquiries
lately for insinuation concerning
tin* improvemenU going on in our
harbor, and we are glad to be able
to speak encouragingly of this work,
which haa been quietly going on
for some timo. It has been previ

inches have been added to the
depth of water opposite
wharves.
In addition to the construction
of a line of crib-jetty for the main
tenance of a deeper channel, dredg
ing opemtions have been carried on
with a view of establishing an im
proved navigable channel ciglity
feet in width and twelve feet in
depth at mean low water, and with
the aid of the jetty work, this chan*
nel will undoubtedly be kept open,
and iu> depth will, no doubt, bo in
creased gradually by the current,
which has been thrown on thisside
of the river by the return face of
the jetty.

After s long vacation, we sis
most happy to be able to present
our work and our “enuee” to our
many generous patrons and friends
in a vigorona, reliable, “live” state
and condition. Tho saying that
failure always wails on new enter

paaaed into a proverb, and many
dismal prognostications have deco
rated the whole length and breadth
of our progress so Gif'. But we are
very glad to assure everybody that
there never was a year-old enter
prise more vigorous and healthy
than this same park enterprise to
day. It has been quietly waiting
for the fulfillment of certain prom
and conditions necessary to
success, which conditions are now
about to be consummated. Our
City Fathers have in no wise inten
