Whaieaate and RcUil peal, re |i SADDLES & HARNESS, RUBBER AND Leather Belting, Bay Street, - - - - Brunswick, Ga. II. L. HARRIS, Watolimalior cSo ffowolor, BRUNSWICK, O-A.., Patent Witdi Regulator. In tbe first place, I remark, there is a greedy, all-grasping monster who oomea in as aoitor seeking the hand of thin republic, and that monster is Monopoly. His sceptre is made ont of the iron of the railtrack, and the wire of telegraphy. He does every thing for his own advantage and for the robbery of the people. Thing, have gone on from bad to worse until in tho Legislatures of New York, New Jersey and I’cnnavlvanis for the moat part monopoly decides every thing. If monopoly favora n law it ; if monopoly oppose ■ law it ia rejected. Monopoly stands in tho railroad depot, putting into bis pock ets in one year two hundred millions of dollars in excess of all reasonable charges for service. Monopoly holds in his one hand the steam power of locomotion, and in the other tbe elec tricity of swift communication. Mo nopoly has tho Republican party in ona pocket and tho Democratic party in the other pocket Monopoly de rides nominations and elections—city elections, Stato elections, national elections With bribes ho acenrea tho votes of legislators, giving them froo passes, giving appointments to noedy relatives to lucrative portions, employing them as attorneys if they aro lawyers, carrying their goods fif teen per cent leas if they are mer chants, and if lie find a ease very stubborn as well as very important, puts down before him tho hard rash of bribery, lint monopoly ia uot so easily canght now ns when, daring tho term of Mr. Buchanan, the login- lativo committee of ono of our Slates oxplorcd and exposed tbe manner in which a certain railway company hod obtained a donation of public laud.— It was found, oat that thirteen of the Senators of that Stato received $173, 000 among them, sixty members of tho lower houso of that State received botwoou $5,000 and $10,000 oneb, the Governor of that Stato rccoived $50, 000, liia clerk rocoivod $5,000, the Lientonant Governor received $10, 000, all tho clerks of tho Legislature received $5,000 onch, whilo $50,000 wero divided among tho lobby agents That thing on a larger or amallcr scale ia all the limo going on in some of the Statos of the Union, but it is not so bungling as it need to be, and therefore not st> easily exposed or ar rested. I tell yon that the overshad owing enreo of the United States to day ia Monopoly. He puts his hand upon every bnshcl of wheal, npon ev ery sack of salt, npon every ton of coal, and every man, woman and child in the United States feels the touch of that moneyed despotism. I rejoice that in twenty-four States of the Un ion already anti-monopoly league. Iiaro been established. God speed them in the work of liberation 1 I wish that ttiis ijucstion might lie the question of the next Presidential elec tion, for between this and that lime we can compel the political parties to recoguize it in tbeir platforms lent, and aajra: "Hen is my heart ao.1 hand; bn mine forever." Let tbe millions of tbe people. North, Sooth, East and Went, forbid the bans of that marriage; forbid them at the bal lot-box, forbid them on the platform, forbid them by great organisations, forbid them by the overwhelming sentiment of an outraged nation, for bid them by tbe protest of the church of God, forbid them by prayer to high heaven. I have nothing to say against corporations, as Hticli; without then* no great enter prise wuulJ he possible. But wbst I do say is tbst the nw principles are to bo applied to capitalists and to corporations that arc applied to tin poorest man aud tbe plainest laborer. Wbst is wrong for me is wrong for the Vanderbilts and tbe Goulds and tho elevated railway eompani.s of Now York aud Brooklyn. If I take from you your pro|«rty, without any adequate conijieusatioo, I am a thief; aud if an elevate! railway damage* tho property uf tliu |ieople, without making any nde«ptato compensation, that ia a gigantic thief. Wbst is wrong on a small scale ia wrong on a large scale. Mon«|>oly iu England has ground buuditds of thousand, of Thoro is no part of the hnuian Issty that needs mors attention than the feet They may Ihj neglected or ovuu abused without any laid consequences boing immediately full; they will, ton oortainty, lie eventually frit, and felt very sorely, too. An excessive flow of blood to tho hood, extreme liability to cold, disordorod digestion and oth er numerous evils are the result of In- attention to tho frost. The f«ct should lie regularly washed and wl|ml every day. Stockings should uot In. pul on whilo there is tho slightest moisture on tho feet. The stockings absorb tho moisture sod gradually return it to tho foot, thereby eausiug them to feel cold and uncomfortable, and, wbst is worse, when tin feet are cold the circulation ia interfered with, and tbe whole system, especially the brain, is thrown into an nbimrin.il stste.— Keep the fei-t clean ami warm, the head cool aud the Isiwels open. If yon wish to preserve your whole sys tem in good working order, ho aura and preserve your feet, let all our readers profit by these remarks, ami they will soon feel by ei|ierwnco that wo are uot exaggerating the eonas- qnences of proper nttention to Iha feet. l'orry Journal: Mr. Barker, of York, in this county, wna in town yesterday, anil gave ua au aroouut of a terribla battle ha had with bees at Mr. Fred Wolffs, financial manager of Uw Alabama Gnat Southern, baa bought control, for tba Erlanger syo dicate, of tha Vicksburg k Meridian and Vicksburg, Shreveport and Pacif ic Railroads.
