That Ti'aah Pile, Our attention bus repeatedly been called to the condition of a largo pile of trash that has been dnnipod, by the city'authorities, from Littlefield A Ti- sou’s wharf. Upon inquiry, we learn tbat nn arrangement had been made with Messrs. L. <fc T. by tbo city an tboritics to put up a bulkhead Mow high water mark, for tbo reception of this trash. It was to bo sufficiently below to allow the tido to overflow tho same. Through tho carelessness of somebody, (lie trash has boon piled up somo distance nbovo tho bulkhead and thcro romnins, much of it too high oven for springtido to wash, nnd nn cyo-soro to evory pnsser by, ns well as a stoneb in bis nostrils at times. There woro about 242,000 feet of lumber in tbo mill, of which only 42,000 feet woro saved, with tbo greatest difficul ty. There wero somo threo hundred men omployod at the mill, and its de struction will outnil considerable suf fering on account of tbo hands being tbns suddenly thrown out of employ ment, nnd the difiicnlty of obtaining plncos. Our pcoplo regret exceedingly the loss of tho nbovo mill, for to it wo looked largely for our supply of lum ber for homo consumption, there be ing quite a number of local orders in tbo mill nt tho time of tho bnruiug.— Our sorrow, bowovor, will bo sliort- livod, for such men ns tbo uhovc- nnmed generally rise right up out of tho ashes and show their manhood.
