Tho Hoizeudorf Bros, have risen, Fhtonix like, out of tho ashos, put np a better establishment and arc doing a nice little business. They certainly deserve commendation. A Suggestion. In our last issuo appeared an arti cle, over the signature Observer, ev ery line of which, in our judgment, was replote with common neuso and practicability, relating to and suggest ing a method for tho accomplishment of an object that should be of interest to every citizen of onr fair city—that of building up and improving our town, and utilizing tho many vacant and almost worthless lots within onr borders. Onr correspondent's plan was tbo formation of a stock compa ny or corporation, whose principal capital should be land aud lots con tributed in lieu of cash by its mem bers, and which should be used os se curity on which to borrow such capi tal as should he needed to curry out any scheme of development iu which the company should choose to era- bark, which loans could be obtained and schemes carried out with much moro oaso by a corporation and con cert of action than by individual ef fort. Wo sco no reason why great quantities of.land in and around our city could not lie obtained for snch an undertaking, and we lirmiy believe that the successful working of such an institution, coupled with our bright future in railroad mattors, would, in a short time, give snch an impetus to our pluco that all property would greatly appreciate in value, if not ob tain oven fancy prices. Railroads do not kaild u town—they only make it possible for it to exist and prosper— and a half dozen railroads are not worth as much to a place ns the united and harmonious efforts of its citizens. Drunswick’s position nud connections mako it possible for her to bccouo a city of some magnitude, hut tho ciCy must lie built, and tho plan suggested seems to us to be cn- pable of doing a groat work in that direction. Wo would suggest a peru sal of the article in question by those who bavo not already dono so, aud that Observer prepare another urticlo for our next issue, going a little more into dotail, giving cxamplos of what might be accomplished, etc. in RKnoniiB. Tho travoling public will hail with delight this uew departure. The schedule of tho pussenger trains, it will bo seen, has bccu reduced three aud otic-half hours, thus doing away with much of tho anuoyauco of delays, etc. The freight trains will run a slower sched ule even than the presold mixed train. On and after Mouday next tho passenger trains will leave our city nt 0:00 a. m. and arrive at (1:45 r. ir, Just here it might not bo amiss for us to revert in onr minds to the con dition of this road only a short while back, und contrast with to-day. It has been but twenty-six mouths siiioo there was but one train on the road, with the exception of lumbor trains, and that one was a mixed train with scarcely any accommodations, and it took one day to go to Albauy and tho next to return. To-day wo fiud tho company arranging for daily passen ger and freight trains each way, with nico cars aud strong engines. Verily tho world moves, and tho B. A* A. with it. To Col. Schlatter and Superintend ent Mender, aided by willing snl*or- dinates, is due the credit of these rap id strides forward But this is not all—in fact, it is but the beginning! When Mr. Wolflfo gets his connections all completed, four trains will not be gin to do tho work. Wo hoj»e to l>c able to state, before we rosigu control of tbo Advertiser, that there are for ty trains a day over tho B A A. We certainly look for it. Some of our readors have twitted ns with “waut of loyalty,” because we did not put our paper in mourning last wcok. It is contrary to onr sense of propriety to put on moil ruing for anybody, aud entertaining such rigid views, we did not feci enllod D|>on to compromise our feelings. No, friends, don’t accuse us of disloyalty, we are “truo blue”—an original whig who stood out for the Union until Geor gia seceded. Lying quiet nud restful iu his flow er strewn casket was tho belovod shep herd of the little flock who had kept tbeir lonely vigil through the dark hours of tho night; emblems of woe docked altar und shrine; only n sti. fled sob broke the oppressive silence —“Father McCabe’’ would nevor again smile a benisou from altar steps; tho voico which. Sunday after Sunday uttered its gentle pax vobitcum was dead and still; the generous hand over ready to help, lay limp aud help less beside the quiet heart never moro to throb responsive to the tale of suf fering, pain and woe. If it is sad to seo the father of a family stricken down in tho midst of his usefulness, how donbly painful is it to sec tbo earthly representative of tho Father of nil cut down; he who welcomed us to tho house of our Fatb' cr, at our birth, in baptism, who has joined the hearts aud hands of our children in mnrriage, who has soothed the dying hours of our doar oues nud sung a requiem over onr loved dead. True, ns the eloquent yonng priest .from Feruandinn, Father O’Boyle, said, with n pathos beyond words ox- pressive in the genuine heartfelt trib ute over tho body of his friend: “A priest, but human aftor all, and being human, subjoct to like paseions with oarsolves—liable, despite the lofty es tate to which his priesthood raises him, to err nud fall short of what ho should be; yet, in that so much more is to be expected of him, in so much greater should be the churity extend ed to him, should he unhappily fall short of his high endeavor; hi* men an guish of rcpr-nlance in hi* sores/ puninh- ment." As a man, no more genial, cheery, liberal spirit lived in our midst. Not only amongst those of his own faith was ho esteemed, hat the first of his Protestant towus-pcople were counted among his wannest f.iends. Ho fonud in Brunswick scarcely a handful of Catholics, and no church worthy tho name. With tho fiery zeal of nn apostle ho labored for and with his littlo flock, until they not only arc a flourishing church, with a respecta ble odifieo nnd comfortable parson age, but have purchasod one of tho finest lots in the city, where, to use almost tho last w ritten words of Fath er MoCnbo, in referring to the hand some brick chnrch being built, “Thank God! it is peeping out abovo tho ground." I am informed that much of his own privnto means lies buried in that church's foundation. That a limn of such abounding cu orgy and singleness of purpose should have cume in conllict with others of like mind and disposition can scarce ly 1.0 wondered at, however much such collisions are to lie deplored.— That Father McCabe’* aim was sioglu und his purpose was pare wo certain ly believe. That ha could uot ulwaya control an iufiriuity of temper—a mis fortune too common to his opponents to allow us to "cost the first stonu"— more deeply deplored and mourned than himself. Indeed, “the manlier uf his taking ufi" in its awful suddenness, prove how terribly sensi- thc overcharged heart, which could not livo nud endure the weights of woe, caused liy misapprehension and leaving his work unfulfilled. God kindly solved the difficulty—in his ho ly arms rests our brother. Tears he- •lowed the lovely floral offerings which garlanded his casket; tender tones— if si range—sung his requiem iu ae termini, and borue by tho bands of bis devoted congregation—followed by friends Protestant and Catholic— lie was layed beside the beautiful bell whose chimes his hands had so often rung to cull "biscbildron'' to worship. Softly soughed tile breeze through the wnying moss of his favorite oaks; softly sounded the organ; softly fell, with the falling xml, on stricken hearts, the singer’s words “Biraaril »r* the d*««t wbo Jiv in the Lord, for they r*:t from tfc*r Ubore.” . con, etc. This department, especial ly, is in ebarge of Mr. Jnmcs 1 Drary in tho office and Mr. James O'Connor in tho ware house, and they are sell ing a heap of staff, too. Mr. Davis, tho vetoran ganger of the Arm, spends most of his time in the interior look ing np "the spirits.” There is still another employe of the flrni. I refer to tho polite Mr. Grasty, who rules at tho desk, monarch of all he-surveys. With pen in hand he is always ready to dot down every transaction. The firm have on hand at this time about *15,000 worth of naval stores. - A. V. Wood's Niivul Store I>«)K>t. Nearly four years since A. V. Wood, Fsq., came among us from Wilming- tou, N.
