Third, that this difference was like
ly to go on increasing, unless atepa
could be taken immediately to coun

were creating thia state of things,
inmo KorosXD. . ;
First, to construct a jetty of oribs,
to be filled with send, brush and
stone, to run parallel with city wharf
or bulkhead line, to narrow tbe water-
wny to abont nine hundred feet, tbe
jetty to ran from tho shore of Buzzard
Island about three hundred feet, to a
point nearly opposite Cook’s wharf,
and tbenco to run down tbe harbor
parallel with tbo wharves to deep wa
ter below Brandy Point' sfii»l—3,400
feet.
Seoond, to dredge out a channel in
front of the wharves atflrtt onehun
dred feet hide and fifteen’ feet deep,
for a distance of 4,400 feet, to connect
with deep water at both ends, to be
increased to a width of 300 feet, and
a depth of eighteen feet at low water.
Third, to conatraet a defloeting
wingdam at the northwest point of
Buzzard Island, to defleet it portion
of tbo ebb water that now passoe
down Turtle river to the obannel that
runs in front of the eity.
Fonrtb, to dredge out tbo shoals
that have formed in this channel-
north of Bnzzard Island—to a depth
of twelve foot and width of ono^hnn-
dred feet for a distance of one thou
sand feet, to give a free water-way to
tho flow of tho ebb lido in front of

volame of tbe ebb water along the
channel of approach to tbe wharves.
In view of tbe large incroaaoof

Somo people have a whoie-sonl

mention oor Bay street joweler, Mr.
Cbarles Doorflinger, who bos made
glad tbe boarts of tbe editor’s house

present as ono seldom sees. It con
sists .of thirty articles of household
goods, suitable for the dining room

of onr donation party, uotico of which

Mr. D.*s shadow never grow less, and
may ho bo allowed to fix np scores of
snob presents for others daring tbe

- Dr. R. H. Hill.
We call tbe attention of onr citizens
to tbe card of this gentleman, for
merly of Bainbridge, wbo baa recent
ly come among os. Below we append
an article from the Bainbridge Demo
crat, which certainly speaks well for
bim:
This esteemed citizen and coll
ared gentleman left onr eity, with bis
family, last week tor Brunswick, which
.lace hs,will make his future home.—
Ve UK* pleasure in commending him
to the people of bis new home as a
splendid physician, a Christian gen
tleman," and’ono who will be love I,
when known, by tho citizens of Bruns
wick. We bespeak for bim and his
interesting family a hearty welcoiuo
from tbo Branewiekere.”
Tito Whisky Question Onoe Mors.
In the recent eonteet that failed to
come to a focus, was a square fight be
tween tbe friends and opponents of
restriction. Every one agreed tbat
tbo results of tbe whiskey treffio as
carried on were ovQ, tbe only differ
ence being as to tho plan to snppress
tbe nuisance. Tbe restrietionists
cried oat, *Wop tbe sale altogether,"
whilst tbe anti-restriotionists (princi
pally tbe dealers) said, "not bo, bnt
rather control it—compel those who
»ell it to conform to tbe letter of the
law, and punish every man wbo is
eangbt drank npon the streets, dis
turbing tbe pnblio peace or endanger
ing the lives of the people—in abort,
enforce the law, as they do in other
cities.’’ Tbe restrietionists’ idea failed
tried, so now the lovers of qniet and
good order yield graeofnlly to tbs
views of the other side, and demand
tbat their views be carried ont to tbe
letter. For onr part, we are free to
say tbat we believe that if tha law bo
carried ont in letter and spirit moeh
of tbe feeling that now exists against
tbe sale of liqnor would die out. We
have talked frith several of our deal
ers, wbo say they stood ready to oboy
not only tbe laws now existing bnt all
others tbat may be made, and they
unite with ail other good citizens to
ask tbat tbe Incoming Council stop
tbe evils now existing, and tbat have
so incensed the mass of onr citizens,
both white and oolored.
For the benefit of a’l ooncerned,
we wonld state that—
First, it ia unlawful for a minor to
bo employed to sell liqnor.
Seoond, it is unlawful to sail or fur
nish liqnor to a minor, unless with
consent of parent, or to allow bim to
play games in a tippling shop.
Third, it is unlawful to sell or fur
nish liqnor to a person already under
the influence of tbe same.
Fonrtb, it is unlawful to sell liquor
on tbe Sabbath day to anybody.
Fifth, it ia very unlawful for men to
get drank and disturb tbe public
peaoe, and endanger tbe lives of citi
zens—in short, to render any part of
onr thoroughfares nusafe or even un
pleasant for the lady members of onr
households to pees along.
Carry oat these laws in le'ler and
tpiiit, and, onr word for it, the ques
tion of restriction will never bo hoard
again.
S. M. alosauer.
In tbe press of matter last week we
omitted calling attention to the dis
play advertisement of tbe gentleman
whoso name beads this article. He
has in stock, besides a first-class line
of groceries, provision*, etc., a hand
some assortment of Christmas and

number of toyc, fireworks, etc. Gall
