Opposition to High Freight Tariff’s!
Office or thk Fashion Link, (
Augusta, April 15, 1854. y
IIIIIE subscriber would respectfully call the
ill. aattention of the Merchants throughout Geor
gia, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to
the Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and
cheap route for the transportation of their Merchan
dise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with
those of the South Carolina, and Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in fa
vor of this route of from SO to 50 percent., gener
ally, and in some instances a greater per centage.
fiv this route a merchant receives each shipment
of liis Goods together; they are not retailed by
him as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with the seaboard, with a list of charges attached
to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
other new Boat, of light draught of water, will be
added during the coming summer. These boats
will leave Savannah after the discharge of the New
York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or three
times a week, delivering those Goods at this point
in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 1 -2\{ per cent, will be allowed on all bills
from this date. Give the river more business, and
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the seaboard should be directed
to M. A. COHEN, Savannah,
aud produce from the interior to
JNO. A. MOORE,, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia', ns well
as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers' generally,
on the line of Railroads through Georgia and Ten
nessee, who ship to Savannah and Northern mar
kets, this route offers very favorable inducements.
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er
rors, bills of lading should be forwarded to M. A.
COHEN, at Savannah, forall goods from seaboard.
JNO. A. MOORE.
In case of low river, all goods consigned to this
line, will b« forwarded by Central, and connecting

REED’S PATENT CHRONOMETER
ENGINE.
ravins is an improved Steam Engine, for which
JL Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed,
of New York, January 1555. The nature of tiiis
Improvement consists of the increase of power
about 20 per cent, and reducing the weight of the
Engine one-half. The saving of fuel is effected by
letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder;
doubling the size of the port, and balancing (lie
pressure, removing the friction and weight of the
slide valves, eccentrics, cross heads, connecting
rods, Ac. The exceeding simplicity of this Engine,
renders it much more durable and easily managed
than any other, and when placed upon the boiler
with wheels it is portable though effective.
These Engines received the First Prize Medal at
the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about
Seventy-live of them now in operation, all giving
great satisfaction.

ROGERS’ LIVERWORT AND TAR,
FOR the complete cure of Coughs, Colds, In- >
flueuza, Asthma, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood, j
and all other Lung Complaints tending to Con- j
sumption.
This preparation is getting into use all over the I
country. The numerous letters we receive from |
our various agents, informing us of cures effected |
in their immediate neighborhoods, warrant us in !
saying it is one of the best, if not the very best
Cough Medicine now before the public. It almost
invariably relieves and not (infrequently cures the
very worst case. When all other Cough prepara
tions have failed, this has relieved the patient, as
Druggists, dealers in Medicines, and Physicians
can testify. Ask the Agent in your nearest town,
what has'been his experience of the effects of this
medicine. If he has been selling it for any length
of time, he will tell you it is the'best Medicine ex
tant.
Below we give a few extracts from letters we
have received lately regarding the virtues of this
Medicine:
Dr. S. S. Oalin, of Knoxville, Ga., says: 1 have
been using your Liverwort and Tar very extensive
ly in my practice for three years past, and it is with
pleasure 1 state my belief in its superiority over all
other articles with which I am acquainted, for
which it is recommended.
Messrs. Fitzgerald A Benners, writing from
Wavnesville, A C., say: ‘‘The Liverwort and Tai
ls becoming daily more popular in this country,
and we think justly so. All who have tried it
speak in commendable terms of it, and sav it is
verv beneficial in alleviating the complaints for
which it is recommended/’
Our Agent in Pickens District, .S. C., Mr. S. R.
McFall, assures us “ that he uses it with great ben
efit in his own family, and recommends it to his
neighbors.” He gives an instance of a Negro wo
man, in his vicinity, who had been suffering with
disease of the Lungs for years, attended with se
vere cough, who was relieved by the Liverwort &
Tar.
Such are the good reports we hear of this Medi
cine from all parts of the South. For a report of
the surprising cures it has performed in the West
ern, and Northern and Eastern States, we would in
vite the suffering patient to read the pamphlet
which accompanies each bottle. To all, we say,
have hope, have hope!
Try the Medicine! Be warned in season! And
neglect not that cough which is daily weakening
your constitution, irritating your throat and lungs,
and inviting on that dread disease, Consumption,
when so soothing and healing a remedy can be ob
tained as Dr. Rogers’ Syrup of Liverwort and Tar.
Beware of Counterfeits and base imitations!
The genuine is signed Andrew Rogers on the
engraved wrapper around each bottle.

Tallapoosa Co., Ala., Jan. 2, 1855.
Dear Sir — l send you this to certify to you that
your Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla has
performed one of the most wonderful cures on me
that lias ever been effected on man.
1 have been afflicted for forty years'with erup
tions on my legs and feet; in 1848 they got so bad
that I had to go on crutches, and in is4y~ I had one
leg amputated above the knee. In about nine
months after my other leg broke out in large eating
and running sores, from mv knee to my foot, and
discharged a great deal of offensive matter. My
groin also broke out in large biles, which discliarg
ed much offensive matter, and at the same time my
left hand broke out in large running sores nearly
o my elbow.
The misery that I have suffered for the last tvve
years, I cannot describe to you. I was in such ag
onv that I never rested day or night.
In October last, my son brought me one of yoiu
bottle wrappers; 1 read it, and found record of some
wonderful cures performed by vour "Extract of
Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla;” 1 sent and got two
bottles of it, and commenced taking it. hi two
weeks, to my great astonishment, mv sores all be
came easy, and 1 could sleep all night, a tiling 1 had
not done for two years. When 1 had taken six bo'iN
ties, my sores had nearly all healed. My sore got
well as if by enchantment. J have now used in all
eight bottles of your " Extract of Yellow Dock and
Sarsaparilla.'' and I now consider mvsel well.
I entreat all of the afflicted to try this medicine,
for 1 believe it will cure any known disease in tin
world. Lay aside all prejudice and just try it, and
proclaim its great worth to suffering mankind, and
entreat them to take it, for it will cure them.
My case is well known in a large portion of South
Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, and if anv should
doubt the above cure, i invite them to call on me,
and I will show them the scars. 1 can be found in

“ I have made a chemical examination of Rhode,'
Fewer and Aque Cure, or Antidote to Malaria, and
have tested it for Arsenic, Mercury, Quinine, and
Strychnine, but have not found a particle of eithc;
in it, nor have 1 found any substance in its compo

EVIDENCE OF MERIT.
“ Lkwisburg, Union Co., Pa.. May-2, 185 .
Mr. J. A. Rhodes— Dear Sir: The box of medi
cine you sent me was duly received on the 11th ot
April. I have sold about one half of it, and so far
the people who have used it are satisfied that it ha*
cured them. It has certainly stopped the Ague :
every one who has used it, and six of the casi -
were of long standing. My sifter, who has had it
for five or six years back, and could never get i'
stopped, except by Quinine, and that only as lot:g
as she would take it, is now, I think, entirely cured
by your remedy. C. R. McFINLY."
CAUTION TO AGUE SUFFERERS.
Take no more Arsenic, Tonics, Mercury, Quinine,
Febrifuges, Strychnine, or Anti-Periodies of any
kind. The well known inefficiency of these nox
ious poisons proves them to be the offspring either
of false medical principles, or of mercenary quacks
The only remedy in existence, that is both sure and
harmless, is
uhodes’ fever and ague cure.
