t|HIE subscriber would respectfully call the
■. aattentioii of the Merchants throughout Geor

tiie Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and
cheap route for the transportation of their Mercban

By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with
those of the South Carolina, and Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result m fa
vor of this route of from 3o to 5 > percent., gener
j ally, and in some instances a greater per centage.
By this route a merchant receives t-acli shipment
of his (foods together; they are not retailed b\
him as they generally arc by Railroads connecting
: with tlie seaboard, with a list of charges attached
i to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
j other new Boat, of light draught of water, will be
added during the coming summer. These boats
; will leave Savannah after the discharge of the New
York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or three
times a week, delivering those Goods at this point
in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low lari ft’of this line a deduc
i lion of 12)4 per cent, will be allowed on all bills
from this date. Give the river more business, and
I a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from tiie seaboard should be directed
to M. A. COHEN, Savannah,

To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as well
as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers generally,
on the line of Railroads through Georgia and Ten

To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er

REED S PATENT CHRONOMETER
ENGINE.
rwiifis is an improved Steam Engine, for which
E Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed,
of New Y ork, January 0, 1855. The nature of this
Improvement, consists of the increase of power
about 20 per cent, and reducing the weight of the
Engine one-half. The saving of fuel is effected bv
letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder ;
doubling the size of the port, .and balancing the
pressure, removing the friction and weight of the
slide valves, eccentrics, cross beads, connecting
rods, <fec. The exceeding simplicity of this Engine,
renders it much more durable and easily managed
than any other, and when placed upon the boiler
with wheels it is portable though effective.
These Engines received the First Prize Medal at
the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about
Seventy-live of them now in operation, all giving
great satisfaction.

ROGERS’ LIVERWORT AND TAR.
f 714)11 tlio complete cure of Coughs, Colds, In
fluenza, Asthma, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood,
and all other Bung Complaints tending to Con
sumption.
This preparation is getting into use all over the
country. The numerous letters we receive from
our various agents, informing us of cures etlected
jn their immediate neighborhoods, warrant us in
staying it is one of the best, if not the very best
Cough Medicine now before the public. It almost
invariably relieves and not unfrequently cures the
very worst case. When all other Cough prepara
tions have tailed, tins has relieved the patient, as
Druggists, dealers in Medicines, and Physicians
can testify. Ask the Agent in your nearest town,
what has been bis experience of the effects of this
medicine. If he has been selling it for any length
of time, lie will tell you it is the best Medicine ex
tant.
Below we give a few extracts from letters we
have received lately regarding the virtues of this
Medicine:
Dr. S. 8. Oslin, of Knoxville, (la., says: I have
been using your Liverwort and Tar very extensive
ly in my practice for three years past, and it is with
pleasure 1 state my belief In its superiority over all
other articles with which I am acquainted, for
which it is recommended.
Messrs. Fitzgerald A Benners, writing from
Wavnesville, V C., say : “The Liverwort and Tat
is becoming daily more popular in this country,
and we think justly so. All who have tried it
speak in commendable terms of it, and say it is
very beneficial in alleviating the complaints for
which it is recommended.”
Our Agent in Pickens District, 8. C., Mr. S. R.
McFull, assures us that he uses it with great ben
efit iu his own family, and recommends it to his
neighbors.” lie gives an instance of a Negro wo
man, in his vicinity, who had been suffering with
disease of the Lungs for years, attended with se
vere cough, who was relieved bv the Liverwort A
Tar.
Such are the good reports we hear of this Medi
cine from all parts of the South. For a report of
the surprising cures it Inis performed in the West
ern, and Northern and Eastern States, we would in
vitc the suffering patient io read the pamphlet
which accompanies each bottle. To all, we sav,
ha vo hope, have hope!
Try the Medicine! Be warned in season! And
neglect not that cough which is daily weakening
your constitution, irritating your throat and lungs,
and inviting on that dread disease, Consumption,
when so soothing and healing a remedy can he ob
tained as Dr. Rogers’ Syrup of Liverwort and Tar.
Beware of Counterfeits and base imitations!
