REED'S PATENT CHRONOMETERT
ENGINE.
FgTIIIS is an improved Steam Engine, for which
B Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed,
of New York, January 9, isss. The nature of this
Improvement consists of the increase of power
about 2" percent, and reducing the weight of the
Engine one-half. The saving of fuel is effected by
letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder;
doubling the size of the port, and balancing the
pressure, removing the friction and weight of the
slide valves, eccentrics, cross heads, connecting
rods, Ac. The exceeding simplicity i f this Engine,
rentiers it much more durable and easily manager!
than any other, and when placet! upon the boiler
with wheels it is portable though effective.
These Engines received the First Prize Medal at
the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about
Seventy-live of them now in operation, ail giving
great satisfaction.

FREE TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight Tariffs!
Officb ok the Fashion June, 1
Arin sTA, April 15, 1854. )
rgAIIE subscriber would respectfully call the
3. aatteution of the Merchants throughout Geor
gia, Tetme.'sec, Alabama, and South Carolina, to
the Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and
cheap route fertile transportation of their Merclian
; di.se.
By comparing the freight tariff’s of this line with
these of ihe South Carolina, and Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in fa
vi-r of this route of from 3d to 50 percent-., gener
ally, and in some instances a greater per centage.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment
of his Goods together; they are not retailed bv
him as they generally are bv Railroads connecting
wish the seaboard, with a list of charges attached
to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
; other new Boat, of light draught of water, will be i
added during the coining summer. These boats .
«ill leave Savannah after the discharge of the New
York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or three ;
times a week, delivering those Goods at this point !
in FIVE DAY’S.
From the present low tariff’of this line a deduc
tion of 12)_, per cent, will lie allowed on all bills !
from this date. (Jive the liver more business, and j
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the seaboard should be directed ;
1 to M. A. COHEN, Savannah,
and produce from the interior to
JXO. A. MOORE,, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as well
as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers generally,
on the line of Railroads through Georgia and Tea
nc'sec, who ship to Savannah and Northern mar
kvts, this route offers very favorable inducements.
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er
r-n-s. bills of lading should be forwarded to M. A.
COHEN, at Savannah, for all goods from seaboard
~ JNO. A. MOORE.
In cn>e of low river, all goods consigned to this

ROGERS’ LIVERWORT AND TAR,
the complete cure of Coughs, Colds, In
B. tluenza, A tlmia, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood,
and all other Lung Complaints tending to Con
sumption.
This preparation is getting into use all over the
country. The numerous letters we receive from
our various agents, informing us of cures effected
in their immediate neighborhoods, warrant us in
saving it is one of the best, if not 1 lie very best
Cough Medicine now before the public. It almost
invariably relieves and not unfrequenllv cures the
very wo; st case. When all other Cough prepara
tions lmrc failed, this has relieved the patient, as
Druggists, dealers in Medicines, and Physicians
; can testily. Ask the Agent in your nearest town,
i what has been his experience of the effects of this
medicine. If he has been selling it for any length
of time, he will tell you it is the best Medicine ex
i taut.
Below we give a few extracts from letters we
have received lately regarding the virtues of this
Medicine:
Dr. S. S. Oslin, of Knoxville, Ga., says: 1 have
been using your Liverwort and Tar very extensive
ly in my practice for three years past, and it is with
pleasure i state my belief in its superiority over all
other articles with which 1 am acquainted, for
which it is recommended.
Messrs. Fitzgerald & Benners, writing from
Waynesville, N. 0., say: “The Liverwort and Tar
is becoming daily more popular in this country,
and we think justly so. All who have tried if
speak in commendable terms of it, and suv it is
verv beneticial in alleviating the complaints for
which it is recommended.”
Our Agent in Pickens District. S. C., Mr. S. R.
M'-Eall, assures us “ that he uses it with great ben
efit in his own family, and recommends it to his
neighbors.” He gives an instance of a Negro wo
; man, in his vicinity, who had been suffering with
disease of the Lungs for years, attended with se
vere cough, who was relieved by the Liverwort A
Tar.
Such are the good reports we hear of this Modi- j
! cine from all parts of the South. For a report of!
the surprising cures it has performed in the West- ,
ern, and Northern and Eastern States, wc would in- ;
; vite the suffering patient to read the pamphlet j
which accompanies each bottle. To all, we sav, ,
have hope, have hope!
Try the Medicine! Be warned in season! And ,
neglect not that cough which is daily weakening j
your constitution, irritating your throat and lungs, !
and inviting on that dread disease, Consumption, :
when so soothing and healing a remedy can be ob- !
tained as Dr. Rogers’ Syrup of Liverwort and Tar.
Beware of Counterfeits and base imitations!
The genuine is signed Andrew Rogers on the
engraved wrapper around each bottle.

I HOW DISEASED ACTION BECOMES ESTABLISH*;;-
AND TIIE BLOOD IMPURE,
i A great error has long prevailed in the minds of tu“ ,
. ical men, *• That Impurity of the Blood is the Cause n
Diseased Action."’ This is a serious mistake. It is >
\ disturbance of the circulation and the establishment o
diseased action, that causes impurity of the blood.
The It. R It. theory holds the truth of the above max
ims, for if a person be iu a state of perfect health, each
artery and vein must carry to ami from the heart its
allotted proportion of Blood, and when any set of ves
sels refuse Jie the cause what it may) to carry their
proportion, the current of blood becomes dammed up—
in other words, a congestion takes place, giving pain to
a greater or less extent Here, then, is the beginning
of diseased action, which, if not relieved, will soon run
into inflammation, and the disease becomes establishes
1 Diseased action being once established, the blood be
comes impure, and the regularity of action on the part
of the Liver, Ski Bowels, &c, is sure to be inter™ t
ed and the general system, by sympathising with the
local complaint, becomes involved in the difficulty. That
ibis is the true state of the case, let any one call to mini
Ids symptoms on catching cold. The local difficulty may
■ b- a sore throat, which is a congestion of the blood,
amounting (sometimes) to an inflammation about th«
; throat, owing to a previous deranged state ofthecir

I i congestion was retting in.as an application to the throat,
; and swallowed a dose of the Regulators, he would have
broken up the congestion, and restored the regularity
i oa the part of the liver, skin, bowels, &e . which ha':
! been broken iu upon by the effects of the sore throat
; l egular ty being again established, the impure blood i
-oon purified, and the circulation again equalized, aud
the health re-tored.
