CRAWFORD’S
Improved Roller Gin
THE public are respectfully inform
ed that the subscribei bus obtain
ed a Patent fur cpMaclunc which son
erates Cotton item the seed, by rollers,
on a new construction, viz:—The roll
ers turn on friction wheels, instead of
boxes; the wheels are fixed in boxes
which fit in hollow cases, so as to be
moved at pleasure; to one of these
boxes at each place where it is necessa
ry to press the rollers together is u
spiral or other spring, onwhich a screw
acts, running through a cap of other
piece fixed on the casts, frohi which
tilt- pressure on the rollers are received,’
See. Besides which, a method of feed -
ing roller gins with a vibrating rule, in
form similar to a quadrant, by which
means severe, pairs of rollers placed in
a concave frame may be fed, with near
ly the same ease that one pair could be.
Connected with this rake is a method
for removing the cotton from a hopper,
placed above the rollers. When sev
eral pair of ro iti s are used, there must
be screens or riddles placed in the
spaces between each pair, made of
wire, so far apart as to admit the seeds
through freely, which falls below, into
inclining troughs as soon as they are
disengaged, which conveys tiitm off,
and prevents them from mixing with
the cotton, which also falls below on a
floor.—ln addition to which are many
more minute parts, which are too tedi
ous and difficult, also unnecessary to be
defined.
These machines may he used in a
similar manner to'other gins for simi
lar purposes. They are durable and
may be made-by any common mechan
ic, seeing one.
Any person w ho may wish to use the
above mentioned machines, can be ac
commodated by applying to the sub
scribe; in Augusta, either with a Ciin
and License, ora License alone. The
Price of a Gin with four pair of rollers.
24 inches long, to work by a horse or
any other impelling power, except by
hand, will be One Hundred and t'if'y
Dollars, the License alone, Ten Dollar*,
