We have had quite a variety of wea’h
er during the past week.

Andrew Female College, left (or their homes
yesterday morning to spend the bollidaya.
Jcst In. —A magnificent lot of Winter hats

something useful, and really handsome fora
Christmas present, call and buy ons.
We are prepared to execute all kinds
of job printing, as cheap as can lie done in
Macon, or elsewhere. Only try the Appeal
Job Office, aud be convinced
We regret to learn that a son of Prof-
Flewellen, of Audrevv Female College, snot
himself in the leg accidentally, while hunt
ing near Georgetown a few days ago.
J3T We return thanks to the committee
of invitation for an invitation to attend a
party at Lumpkin Masonic Female College,
on the 22<1. and regret that a press of busi
ness prevents our attend nee.
Rkmovud.— J. J. McDonald has fitted up
the Store room under the Masonic Hall in
elegant style, and is removing his, stock of
Drugs into it, and adding largely to his stock.
«.►
Addiiest.—A Masonic address will be de
livered at the Methodist church, on Wednes
day, the 27th, at 10 o’clock, A. M. The pub
lic are invited to attend.
No Paper Next Week.—ln keeping with
the time honoured custom of the press, and
in order that our printers may have a little
rest and-recreation, there will be no paper is
sued from this office next week.
Incheasing the Population.— We learn j
that the wife of Mr. J. T. Keaton , of Calhoun
County, gave birth to three fine, fat boys, on
Wednesday last At lust accounts, all partita
were doiug finely. If Keaton wants any of
fice in that county, we advi-e the people to
give it to him.
Vick’s Floral Guide —Every person in
terested in the culture of flowers or vegeta
bles, should have a copy of this most excel
lent work It is a very handsome book, aud
contains more information oe this subject
than any work we have y.t seen. See ad
vert Is merit.
Finn.—The shanty occupied by Old
Aunt Atlnica Barton, the well known cake
peddlar, in the Southern suburbs of the city,
was destroyed by fire on Tuesday night. It,
was evidently the work of an incindiury.
Aunt Annica, we learn, lost everything she
had. No insurance.
Enterprise —Messrs Allison &. Simpson
are handsonn ly fixed u;> in their new qaar
teis iu the Standby Rock building. Their
stock of groceries and hardware is very largo
and pei fecity complete as to variety. They
have just completed an arrangement for load

They can handle a hogshead of bacon as easily
as you please, mid in the shortest imaginable

“ That Wedding.” hinted at iu our last is
sue was intended to be a private affair; and.
since everybody manifests so much interest
in it, and so many have found out all about it.
the parties have determined to postpone it
another week. One reason assigned for this
postponement is to give the baker time !o
complete his designs for finishing up the edi
tor’s cake.
* •*-
A Mystery Solved.—-Mr. A. B. Hendry, re
siding a few miles out from the city, was hav
ing a negro house removed when he discover
ed the key to a mystery which had perplex
ed him.for some lime, in the shape of wood
ea keys to Ills smoke bouse, corn crib and
dwelling. The two former were made ot
hard wood, and though the locks were intri
cate in their formation, they were easily
opened by these keys. There was also a key
made of iron or steel, which would op ai any
uoor in his dwelling.
He had missed articles from these houses
for some time ; and now ** knows how it w.-s
himself.”
Male School.—The prospect for a male
School in Cuthhert is very flattering, the
Board of Trustees have made the necessary
arrangements for opening the School early
in January ; and they have applications
from some of the very best teachers in the
State to take charge of the Institution. Le,
everybody lend a helping hand ; let tile peo
ple immediately interested do their whole du
ty, and ere long the fame of the Cuthberi
Mule Institute will go out over all the land.
With our flourishing female Colleges and
a male school of high order, no city in this
section will offer superior educational advan
tages to those of Cuihbert.
The Election.—The election tor Governor
passed off very quietly on Tuesday, result
ing in this county , as follows :
Cuihbert 340
Coleman’* Station.,. 45

The Conference Appointments —lt will
be seen by the appointments in another col
umn that Rev. R. B Lester bas been sent
as Presiding Elder to the Bain bridge Dis
trict. Although followed by blighting mis
fortune* almost during his entire year as pas
tor of the Cuthhert Ciiurcb. he has won a
place in the heart* of the Methodists, and
people of Cutbbert general y, which will be
the source of many regrets at his departure
from us. We can but hope that his earnest,
faithful admonitions, while at the post of
duly here, are not lost, fbe Bai a bridge
District will have iu Bro Lester, a faithful,
able presiding Elder.
Rev. B F. Breedlove has been appointed
to the Cuthbert church next year, and we
think the presiding Bishop held our city in
high favar i» making this appointment. He
is considered one of the rising young men of
the Conference. He is a watchful, working
pastor, a clear, forcible, popular preacher;
and has been successful iu winning souls to
Christ, in every previous field of labor. May
bis labors be more successful than ever, and
his sojourn here.prove a blessing to his flock,
and to the eutire community.
Dr. B. J. Baldwin, who has worked so
faithfully and so successfully in building up
S’. Paul's church, in South Cuthhert, has
been returned to that charge, much to the
gifktification of all interested.
Rev. J. Blakely Smith still presides over
the Atnericus District.
