sessed by an evil spiiit of misfor
tune, at least that is tbe sort of
explanation they Often give- them -
sdves concerning the n i-.liaps
that befall them. Mrs. Derby
thought she certainly belonged to
the class thus defined—in holiday
lime, at any rate; for it really
seemed as though everything dis
agreeable and malapropos had
conspired to make that season of
the year anything but a “merry”
one to her.
