Daniel Webster Garnett of
Rt. 1, Appling, Ga. died
Sunday Dec. 30 in a local
infirmary.
He was a life long resident of
Appling, Ga. and a member of
the Second Mt. Carmel Baptist
Church where he served as
superintendent of the Sunday
School, secretary of the
Trustee Board, chairman of
the Usher Board, secretary of
the Children Benevolent
Society and the Rising Son
Society until his health
intervened.
Survivors include his Wife,
Mrs. Adella Browdre; one
sister, Mrs. Hattie Thompson;
one brother-in-law, Mr. Robert
Bowdre; six sisters-in-law, and
a host of neices and nephews.

Thirteenth St. died Wednesday
Jan. 2 in local hospital.
He was a native of Columbia
County, but had lived in
Augusta for 34 years. He was a
member of Pierce Grove
Baptist Church.

A native of Burke
County, she had lived in
Augusta for seven years. She
was a member of Antioch
Baptist Church, Burke County.

Mrs. Gussie Bryant, Augusta;
an adopted daughter, Mrs.
Emma Ruth Gree, Augusta; a
son, Ed Neal, Augusta; a
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gladys
Neal, Augusta; three
grandchildren; two neices, five
nephews; and other relatives
and friends.

Monroe St. died Monday Dec.
31 in a local nursing home.
Survivors include one son,
irielvin Thompson, and one
brother, Rev. Clarence Parks,

Friday Jan. 4 in the Mt.
Calvary Baptist Church and
Rev. Clyde Hill officiated.
Burial was in the Cedar

Walter Glover of 1224
Twelfth St. died Tuesday Jan.
1 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Ruby Glover, Augusta;
three sons: Mr. Harold Glover,
Augusta, Mr. David Lee Glover
and Mr. Walter Glover, Jr. both
of Cocoa, Fla; two sisters, Mrs.
Henrietta Fitts, Allendale, S.C.
and Mrs. Nancy Bryant,
Jacksonville, Fla.; one aunt
Mrs. Lizzie Drayton, Allendale,
S.C.; two uncles, Mr. Quillie
Brown, Allendale, and Mr.
Felton Brown, Jacksonville,
Fla; fourteen grandchildren,
Shipps said.
“We’ll march in order to
collect the necessary funds for
continued medical research
into the why of birth
defects--why 250,000
American infants annually are
bom less than perfect.
Approximately one out of
every fourteen infants born in
Richmond County is a birth
defective child,” she added.
The funds contributed
locally to the March of Dimes
also are used in support of the
medical services project at the
Medical College of Georgia and
in support of the parental care
projects associated with Better
Infant Births (BIB), an
organization of year-round
March of Dimes volunteers
here in Augusta.
“Volunteers for Mothers
Marc’’ °re needed especially in
Tangiv..ood, Forest Acres,
Thomas Woods, and
Brookwood,” Mrs. Shipps
noted, “but anyone who
desires to help in their own

neighborhood is most welcome

Mrs. Shipps, wife of Rev.
H.W. Shipps and mother of
four, is a professional artist
who teaches part-time at the
Gertrude Herbert Memorial
Institute of Art. An active,
community-oriented woman,
she also directs a tutoring
program at the Hyde Park
Community Center for her
husband’s church.

Tuesday Jan. 1 in the Nassau
County Hospital, Long Island,
N.Y.
He was a native of Aiken
County and was employed at
the Department of Sanitation,
Nassau County. He was also a
member of the Welcome
Travelers Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Eliza Dozier, Hempstead
Long Island, N.Y., three sisters,

The Augusta Police
Department will conduct a
briefing on a new law
enforcement training program
which is available to citizens of
this community who are
interested in a career in the law
enforcement field. The briefing
will be held in the Recorder’s
Court Building, corner of 9th
and Reynolds Street, Augusta,
Georgia at 1:00 p.m., Friday,
February 1, 1974.
