Augusta Mini Theater Closes Season with a Winner
The Augusta Mini Theatre
will present the final
production of the season “High
Chairs”, May 7th and Bth at
8:15 p.m. in Tubman Jr. High
School Auditorium.
The play is a serious comedy
centered around Grandma and
Grandpa schemes to make their
daughter & son-in-law feel
guilty about sending them to
an old folks home.

Nation’s labor force. Persons
who may be considered
unemployable have much to
offer employers in the public
and private sector.
The Senior Community
Service Employment Program
now services Emmanuel,
Burke, Columbia, Screven,

relationships of the Older
Worker with the local
businesses.

Jesse Golphin, Jr.

Demonstrates
Talent in
the Arts
Jesse Golphin Jr. was bom
in Augusta, Ga. His
undeigraduate work was done
at Fort Valley State College
and graduate work at Howard
University, African Studies
Department, Washington, D.C.
Golphin is a poet, performer
and short story writer.
He has performed at the
Potter’s House, Columbia
Station, French Underground,
and at Folger Shakespear’s
Library in Washington, D.C. He
is employed at the Library of
Congress, Washington, D.C.
Golphin is the son of Mrs.
Dorothy Golphin of 2114

Chapter will have its monthly
meeting Sunday, May 8,6 p.m.
at the Pilgrim Civic Room on
Laney-Walker Blvd.

Attends Regional
Conference
Members of the Augusta
Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority recently attended
their 24th South Atlantic
Regional Conference held at
the Myrtle Beach Hilton,
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The theme for the conference
was “A Salute To Women ”
The chapter displayed with
the exhibits scrapbooks on the
reading experience, chapter
activities, pledge club of
Augusta College and Medical
College of Georgia, and arts
and crafts made by sorors.
Several sorors were assigned to
conference committees and
workshops. A certificate was
received at the Awards
Banquet for the chapter’s high
ranking attendance, which was
based on percentage of chapter
sizes.
