CAR CARE—

■3 Tips To Add Safety
And Save You Money
TUNE-UP AND SAVE
Tuning up your car can
save you more than the cost
of the tune-up, and will make
your car start easily and oper
ate smoothly. Studies show
that well-tuned cars get about
10 percent more mileage than
neglected cars. For example,
a car that runs 18,000 miles
per year at 12 miles per gal
lon consumes 1,500 gallons
of gasoline. At 60 cents per
gallon, that’s S9OO for gaso
line.
Fellowship Day in 1933, it has
been traditional for church
women to come together on
the first Friday in May to
emphasize the creative and
healing relations that are
possible among people in the
2,000 communities where
Church Women United is
organized in local units.

service, “Gifts to Claim,”

The City Council
Gives Tax Payers A
60% Tax Reduction
City taxpayers still pay
state, county and education
taxes, as well as one mill on
debt reduction, . inspite of the
8.25 mills set by the Augusta
City Council last Monday,
Mayor Lewis A. Newman said
that “For every SIOO paid last
year, by taxpayers, S4O will
now be paid. The Richmond
County Board of
Commissioners will do the
county residents somewhat
better by rolling back county
ad valorem property taxes in
the unincorporated section to
zero mills, not including state,
education and debt reduction
taxes.
The Richmond County
Board of Assessors approved
the city’s millage, and
following its past practice, the
city will send out tax bills
before the State Department of
Revenue approves the digest.
This report came from the
local tax assessors’ office. The
Council also gave the green
light to a 516.4 million city
budget and 52.2 million in
federal revenue sharing money
making a total budget of more
than 518.5 million dollars. This
budget does not include a SI
million for federally
reimbursable community
development funds.
