LOCih TXSSffi IN BRIEF.
Read the many business locals in.
this issue of the ADVERTISER.
—An adjourned term of Paulding
Superior Court opened last Monday.
The disciples of Izaak Walton
will proceed to drop a line to their
friends the fishes.
Everybody should a' tend the
Sunday-school picnic at this place
next Saturday and carry baskets
well filled.
Wc venture to ask our friends
down in the pine woods south of us
if they have vet heard the toot of
the engine ou the Georgia Western.
The Sunday-school at Cave
Springs will have a grand picnic at
that place on the 7th instant, and
the schools at thi3 place, we learn
have been invited to attend. A big
time is anticipated.
See card of Laurel Mills Manu
facturing Co. They desire to ex
change goods of their manufacture '
for wool. Mr. C. E. Heatli is their
agent at this place, upon whom par
ties may call who are interested.
—The casual reader will not fail to
notice the advertisement of Bob
Hutcherson in this issue, notjfying
the public that he is on hand, as
usual, with a full stock of the best
goods to be had in his line. Those
who can appreciate a good thing
when they find it should not fail to
go to Bol/s and call for some of his
best.
—Read the advertisement of Ayer
& McDonald, in this issue of the
Advertiser. They solicit the trade
of the planters of this section for
the various kinds of farm machinery
■and implements they handle, and al
so their large s'oek of general hird
ware. Palmers needing anytltyng in
their line will do well to consult;
them.
— Advertisements have rushed in
upon us to such an extent as to al
low but little room for reading mut-
t r on our inside. Next Week we
will issue a supplement in order to
be able to publish the amount we de
sire to. The crowded State of our
ci liimns causes us to leave some im
portant matter’s unnoticed. We will
try and give them attention next
week.
—Cave Springs lost one of her
best citizens in the death ol Dr. Geo.
P. Watts, which occurred in that
place on last Thursday night. Dr.
Watts was a physician controlling i
line practice, and as a man, he wield
ed an extensive influence in til com
munity. Always upright in his
dealings-and in his general manner,
he had f< ve . mice. The
ty deeply deplores the loss of such a
citizen. lie was about fifty-three
years of age.
—While in Rome Saturday we had
occasion to visit l lie millinery estab-
lishmeritof Mrs. T. B. Williams, and
couldn’t help hut remark the unu
sually large display of goods her
slock embraces. Mrs. Williams in
person selected her goods in New
York and procured all the attractive
novelties of the season, flats, flow
ers, ribbons, laces, and many things
we know nothing about can be found
in her handsome stock of goods, and
all as low as such goods can be sold.
Ludi- s, don’t fail to give her a call
when you Visit Roms. See her ad
vertisement in this issue.
—There are a number of sharks
who hold f rtli >n various p rlions
of Yankeedom who make a living and
heaps of money olf of unsuspecting
•people all over the Con ut'Fy.wiin tab-, to
their humbugs as fast as they can
brought into notice. The latest
thing to gull the gullible is called
“Boyd's Battery,” which claims to
be a miniature electric battery, and
when worn around the neck “will
keep off every kind of disease.” It
contains just about as much elec-'
tricity as an Irish potato, and conse
quently about as much virtue. It is
meeting with a large sale, though, as-
-does every other humbug.
—A couple of matrimonially in-
clined individuals, df apparently im
mense rural proclivities, in a one-
horse wiigo. and attended by
two masculines on horseb ck, liauled-
up in front of the residence of the
Rev. Mr. Myrick, last Sunday, and
exhibiting a license issued from tile
Ordinary's office, of P6Ik county,ask
ed to be made man and wife. The
job was performed in a neat ins; tier
by Rev. Mr. M., and the party a!
once went on their way rejoicing.—
Their names apptar to have been
Thomas Cooley and Josephine Put-,
uam, but they gave no satisfactory
account of their iormer abode.
. —We call attention to the adv> r-
tisement of W. M. Phillips & On.
who are the mauufacuterers agents-
for various kinds of farm machinery.
Messrs. Phillips & Co. are well known
to the people of this section as gen
tlemen who deal fairly with the pub
lic, and their facilities-for supplying
planters with what they need in the
way of machinery and implements
is not surpassed by any house in
North Georgia. Their stock of gen
eral hierebanediee is always full,fresh
and select, and customers may ex
pect also low prices and the most
courteous attention when calling,
upon them for goods in their line.-
We commend them to the people as

Daringia3t Saturday night thieves
took, from the window of the saloon 4
of Wade W. Milam goods in the way
of boxes of cigars, bottles of fine
whiskies, champagnes, etc. the exact,
quantity not ascertained. One night
a few weeeks ago the front window
of the 3iloon was smashed in by-
rogues, who help- d 'hemselves from
his stock and departed not to be
found out readily. To protect him
self against a future raid he had a
strong iror grating fitted across the
window, which proved but a slight
barrier to the light - fingered gents
when they returned on their mis
chievous erfand last Saturday night.
By some means they pried the rods
apart sufficiently to admit of the
.passage of the goods, and from the
same aperture iu the glass that had
previously been made they took out
more goods. Mr. Milam, after being
cognizant of the second-depredation,-
determined to find the guilty par
ties if possible, and offered a consid
erable reward for their apprehension.
This seemed to have the effect desir
ed, as Mr. John Powell, one of our
marshals, whose suspicions had al
ready rested upon a couple of con
victs, in company with his brother,
visited the camp and after due search,
discovered some empty cigar boxes
and bottles in the. hands of Dave
-Pulliam and Bud Bramlett, white,
which -old only too plainly who had
been guilty of the deed.'Some of the
boxes proved to be those that were
taken the time’the saloon was first
uroken open-several weeks ago.
As the two men are convicts now
•serving cut their time, it is not
possible for the law to reach them at
present. But they are what is known
as trusties, having a freedom allowed
them only by tlioSe having them in
charge, and ,. . d< rs'and Mr. Mi
lam will enter suit against the les
sees, ilie Harrietts and North Geor
gia Railroad Company, for damages.
