A Good Day’s Work.
Berrien Superior Court conven-
This term of court was called up¬
on the recommendation of the
county commissioners for the ex¬
press purpose of trying the cases
against Boisa Bryant and Berry
Walls charged with the killing of
Marshal W. A. Hyers in Adel
dnri:)g*the latter part of May.
Although Wails has been incar¬
cerated it has been conceded ful¬
some time that the state would
not be able to make any case a-
gainst hi 111 .
After the court was organized
a bill of indictment charging
murder was promptly returned a-
gainst Bryant. The court ap-
pointed Attorneys J. J. Murray
of Tifton, W. I). Buie of Nash¬
ville and Ik T. Knight of Mill town
to defend the accused. Attorney
Jackson of Adel assisted Solicitor
Thomas in the prosecution. The
states counsel were not very Jong
in submitting enough evidence to
make out a clear case, although
the attorneys for tlie defense
made a good fight for the prison¬
er. The speeches were concluded
and the case submitted to the ju¬
ry shortly after six ofeiock in the
afternoon.
After the jury had Jk'o i out for
eottie time it began to ! e suspie-
ioned that a verdict tfnsht beren-
der?d which would cal! for life
imprisonment or some lighter
punishment. It was clearly seen
that, this would not be satisfacto¬
ry to the large crowd .which wait¬
ed rather impatiently for the ver¬
dict.
Shortly after 10 o'clock when
it, was ascertained that the jury
had agreed upon a verdict, Judge
Spence had the court house clear¬
ed and the doors closed. The ver¬
dict was received aniy it was an¬
mm need that it was for murder
in the first degree wit >ut any
recommendation for mercy, the
court house doors were thrown
open and the crowd returned.
Judge Spence lectni ed the con-
him detuned be murderer aty| o?| sentenced
to hanged Sept. 12 .
Bryant is only about seventeen
years old and is below, the average
in intelligence. It is understood
that some of the jury were in fa-
vor which of recommending mercy
would call for a sentence

THE SOUTH GEORGIA COMING.
It has been truly said that
“hope deferred maketh the heart
sick.” For a year or two Adel
lias been expecting the South
Georgia &-West Coast railroad to
announce definitely that this
place would be made the north¬
ern terminus of this i-'iad. A
great many reasons exist, why the
road should be extended to Adel
instead of stopping at Heartpine.
The citizens of Adel expect to be
benefit ted and certainly the road
would be.
While in Quitman last week
the editor sought to ascertain the
minds of the road officials and al¬
though no time limit is given, it
was stated that the purpose to
extend , , the road . to . Adel . , , was bv ,
*
abandoned. . . , T Indeed, .
in means
it is quite probable that this work
will be done before the close of
the present, year or quite early
next year.
Adel may confidently expect
this road but what would please us
best of ali would be to see the
work started right away. In the
sentiment of Patrick Henry : We
repeat it, sirs; 'Let it come.

The Same old Story-
J. A. Kelly relates an experi¬
ence similar to that which has
happened in almost every neigh¬
borhood in tlie United States a'nd
has been told and re-told by thou-
eands of others. He says: “Last
summer I had an attack of dys¬
entery ami purchased a bottle of
Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera and
Diarrhoea Remedy, which I used
according to directions and with
entirely satisfactory results. The
trouble was controlled much
quicker than former attacks when
I used other remedies.’' Mr. ReJ-
