Freight Train
V/as Wrecked.
The north bound through freight
which came to Adel about two
o’clock Monday morning was
wrecked near the depot. A car
jump*! the truck a couple of
hnndrtd yards or more below the
point where the wreck occurred.
It ran this way until another one
was thrown oiF. These two
crashed into cars standing on the
sidetracks on either side. A mass
of wreckage greeted those who
visited the scene a few hours af¬
terward. All of the cars were
empty except two, they being
loanwd with ertss ties and hay
and corn belonging to the I>wi«
Tie Co. No damage was done to
the freight, The cars fell on
both sides of the tracks, one of
them falling almost into the
doors of the Passmore Co. aud
Shaw & Shaw. The night was
v>ry windy, but the noise of the
crash was heard by many people
in town.
SJfr. Owens was hastily sum¬
moned to the depot and telegrams
were sent informing the -officials
of the accident. A large force of
bands was on the ground in a
few* hours clearing away the de¬
bris. A littls afti-r noon the
main line was cleared.
No delay was caused by the ac¬
cident, the trains using the tracks
of the (South Georgia roa’d. Tho
accident occurred between the
switch's, thus preventing the de-
lay which would have been caus¬
ed could th* trains not have
reached the South Georgia road.
One of the car* was so badly
splintered that it was burned up.
No one was injured.
Agent Leggett estimates the
loss at about most of she
trucks and other iron parts not
oeing damaged.

Tendency of the Times.
The tendency of medical science
ip toward preventive measures.
The best thought of the world is
being given to the subject. It is
easier and better to prevent than
to cur*. It has been fully demon¬
strated that pneumonia, one of
the most dangerous diseases that
medical men have to con ted with,
can be prevented by the uso of*
Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy.
Pneumonia always results from a
«o!d or from an attack of influenza
(grip,) and it has been observed
that this remedy counteracts any
tendency of these disease* toward
pneumonia. This has b««n fully
in many thousands of
in which this remedy has
been u*ed during the great pre¬
valence of colds and grip in re¬
cent years, and can !>c relied
.upon with implicit confidence.
Pneumonia often results from a
slight cold when no danger is ap¬
prehended until it is suddenly
discovered that there is fever and
difficulty in breathing and pains
in the chest, then it is announced
that the patient has pneumonia.

Much Freight
Being Received.
On Tuesday of last week the
freight receipt..* were heavier here
than ever known before. Agent
Leggett has been associated with
the Georgia Southern and Smith
Georgia roads for a number of
years, having previously been
agent of the former road here,
and later joint agent of the two
roads at Ileartpiue. He says
that never has there been a day
alien there has been as-iimHi*
interchange* 1 cF freight between
the roads, and never has there
been as much local freight re¬
ceived in Adel.
Messrs. Leggett and Owens at
the Georgia Southern, and Mr.
Lcveiette at the South Georgia,
are having about all they can do
j these days. And it would bo
j hard to find efficient
1 a more set
of railroad men. The big rail¬
road business being done, be¬
tween seasons, as it is, is about
as g;od index to tho hustling
spirit which prevails here as can
he found. This record breaker
would not be so surprising a lit¬

to arrive, but at this time it is
highly gratifying, to say the
least.
