Christ was a poor and needful
soul. He was the sort of man
that we might consider a
worthless cause. He had no
hope for himself, but his
friends had hope! It was to his
friends that Christ said, “Well
done! your faith has saved
him.” Have you ever felt a
calm come over you all of a
sudden while you were in an
uncomfortable position? Do
you not think that maybe
someone was praying for you?
Maybe it was a godly mother
or father, or your pastor or a
good Christian friend.
How long has it been since
you showed any concern for
your sin sick brother? May you
think today that it may be
your display of faith that will
turn them to the Lord. Paul
and Silas showed some concern
for the jailer who was about to
take his life. They stopped
him and because that jailer
had seen their faith that night,
he did what was necessary to
gain peace in his heart and
entrance into the “Eternal city
not made with hands.” He
accepted Jesus Christ in his
heart and went on his way with
joy in his soul.
Exercise your faith, some
one will thank you for doing it,
and you will thank God that
you did.

The Beta Club of Taylor
County High School has had a
very active year for the team
1967-68.
To start the year off, the
following officers were elected
to lead the Beta Club; Alan
Waller, president; Ricky Prince,
vice-president; Judy
Montgomery, secretary; Judy
Riley, treasurer and Beth
Jones, historian.
The Beta group sponsored
two projects this year. The first
project was to head the
clean-up campaign after the
Halloween Carnival. And that
was quite a job. The Betas
worked with the FHA Club,
sponsored by Mrs. Barbara
Payne, on this project. The
next project was to sell coat
hangers to raise money to give
a gift of $25.00 to someone in
the hospital for Christmas.
On March 8, 1968, Alan
Waller, Karen Horton, and
Judy Montgomery,

Sponsor, Miss Jerri Windham,

Serious Problem
Faces Taylor
County Farmers
A summer legume called
crotalaria is causing a serious
problem in Georgia corn sales,
according to Vernon Reddish,
Taylor County Extension
agent.
Crotalaria seed are very
toxic to livestock and poultry.
Mr. Reddish said it takes only a
few seed mixed in the feed to
cause serious losses to livestock
and poultry producers.
“Feed companies are
checking corn samples very
closely and if one crotalaria
seed is found in the sample, the
entire lot of corn probably will
not be accepted,” Mr. Reddish
said.
Local farmers may obtain
crotalaria eradication and
control information at
the county Extension Service
Office.
Heads 1968 Group
spent the weekend in Atlanta
for the National Beta Club
Convention. Karen Horton and
Judy Montgomery served as
Marshals during the afternoon
session, helping to register
delegates. The girls enjoyed
this and got to meet Betas
from all over the state of
Georgia.
During the fifth six weeks,
the Beta Clubers went on an
ANTI-U campaign to stamp
out the Unsatisfactory in
deportment. Anyone receiving
a “U” in deportment for that
period had to serve as the
BETA CLUB SLAVE FOR
THE DAY! ! ! We had only
one member of the club to
come up with a “U” that time
and he begged us not to put his
name in the Taylor County
News. So we’ll stick to our
promise.
For the first time, the Beta
Club sponsored a plaque of
honor. By a points system, a
member of the club has been
chosen to have his or her name
inscribed on the plaque, which
will remain in the Trophy Case
at the school. The number of
points is derived from a 90 or
above average, the clubs he is a
member of, and offices held in
the clubs, the honors received,
and the rating by the members
of the Beta Club. This person
must have creditable
scholarship, commendable
attitude and worthy character.
The Beta Club Plaque for
1967-68 went to Sissy Riley.
Her activities and honors
include: Beta Club; FHA,
President; 4-H, Secretary;
Student Council,
vice-president; Pep Club;
Athletic Club, Basketball and
Tennis, All-State Forward,
Member of All-Tournament
Team (Tri-County), Member of
All-State Team; Literary Club,
Home Economics - 1st in
Region, 4th in State and she
was the delegate to Rozell’s TV
Program honoring Young
Americans.
At the close of the school
year, the Beta Club elected its
officers to head the 1968-69
school year. They are Judy
Montgomery, president; Sandra
Albritton, vice-president; Sissy
Riley, secretary; Lisa Nelson,
treasurer and Karen Horton,
reporter.
