May 12th, my daughter, Brette, was supposed to graduate
from Mercer University, She, along with a gazillion other
students, from pre-K on up, have had their end-of-school
plans abruptly halted, due to Coronavirus. Bless all of their
hearts--it breaks my heart! They have all missed a lot of
great school and social experiences, but, on the other hand,
they’ve had an experience no other generation has ever had!
And, they are extremely creative concerning how they are
handling all of this craziness!
As of now, most of the schools, including Mercer, are plan
ning end-of-year and graduation ceremonies at later dates,
more than likely with altered programs that include social
guidelines, etc. Some folks are calling this abnormal state
of affairs our new normal! Oh my!
With that in mind, The News is holding off on honoring
local students and graduates,.,to see what happens. They
all deserve all the kudos and awards they can get, so it’s
coming.,, we just don’t know' w'hen.
That’s the same way I’m handling Brette’s graduation at
home. Even though she has met all requirements for gradu
ation, we are going to celebrate when she actually gradu
ates.
But, everything doesn’t wait. Now, Brette is heading to
Augusta University to pursue a career in Occupational
Therapy. That program begins Monday, so she’s off-again.
(And, just when 1 got accustomed to her being hack home
full-time. She’s been home since March, sheltering in place,
and so has Hayli, so at least they have had each other to
entertain and aggravate.) After four years, 1 had gotten used
to her not being at home all the lime, but Macon is not so far
away. Now, she’s going to Augusta, and that’s three horn s
away! (At least Hayli will be home until August-then she
will head two hours away, back to Carrollton.) 1 have to
keep reminding myself that my babies are 22 and a month
shy of 20. Oh, shoot, it doesn’t matter how old they are-
they are still babies, to me! Brette’s leaving again this week
end. It’s yanking on my heartstrings, but she’s pursuing
her dream, and I thank God for that!

Irrelevant Deaths
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with the
motto of“CDC 24/7: Saving Lives, Protecting People (tmf
reports death statistics on a weekly basis. According to
the CDC, since the week ending February 8, 2020, 37,308
Americans died from COVID-19 and 324,664 people died
of other causes. Politicians and the media mourned the
deaths of the COV1D-I9 group; the others were irrelevant
deaths.
Tragically, the media’s focus on those virus deaths
drowned out an interesting revelation from a “third gen
eration Democrat”. Tara Reade. She said that in 1993 while
working for Senator Joe Biden he forced her against a wall,
kissed her, and did what doctors call a “digital examina
tion” upon her person, against her wall,
Reade’s allegation fell upon deaf ears among Democrats,
women’s libbers, and the #MeToo Movement.
Compare Tara Reade to Christine Blasey Ford, the woman
that accused Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett
Kavanaugh of improper behavior at a high school party.
Ford’s memory was fuzzy and uncorroborated. Reade how
ever was precise and gave a vivid recollection of the event.
Hillary Clinton said of Ford’s recollection: "... I found her
presentation, I found her willingness to say I don’t remem
ber that but I remember this to be very convincing...”
Whew!
On September 26, 2018 Pelosi tweeted, “We must
#BelieveSurvivors. Pm proud to stand with my Democratic
colleagues in support of Dr, Christine Blasey Ford,”
Neither Clinton nor Pelosi believe Reade!
Joe Biden set the record straight Friday May 1, 2020 on
MSNBC’s Morning Joe Show,
Read from the transcript between Mika Brzezinski (MB)
and Joe Biden (JB). “MB: But Mr. Vice President, as it
pertained to Dr. Ford, everyone wanted - high-level Demo
crats said she should be believed, that they believed it
happened. You said if someone like Dr. Ford were to come
out, the essence of what she is saying has to be believed,
has to be real. Why, why, why, why is it real for Dr. Ford
but not for Tara Reade?
“JB: Because the facts are, look. She - I'm not suggesting
she had no right to come forward, and I never - I’m not
saying - any woman, they should come forward and they
should be heard, and then it should be investigated. It
should be investigated. And if there’s anything that makes
it - that is consistent with what’s being said, and she makes
the case or the case is made, then it should be believed.
But ultimately, the truth matters, The truth matters, Pe
riod. I fought my entire life to change, to change the whole
notion of the law and the cultural, sexual * the culture
around sexual assault, and I fought to strengthen the pro
tective process for survivors. 1 believe that we’ve come a
long way and we have a long way to go in this system be
fore we in fact are in a position that there’s a fair and un
biased view, but at the end of the day, it has to be looked
at. These claims are not true. There’s no corrob- I mean,
they’re not true. I don’t know what else 1 can say to you.
“MB: Well, I’m going to try and ask many different ways.
Stacey Abrams said during the Kavanaugh hearings: T
believe women. I believe survivors of assault should be
supported and their voices heard.’ Kirsten Gillibrand
tweeted: ‘Do we believe women? Do we give them the op
portunity to tell their story? We must be a country that
says yes every time.’ They now both support you. Nancy
Pelosi falls into this category, too, as well as many other
leaders in the Democratic Party. Are women to be believed
- are women to he believed unless it pertains to you?
“JB: Look, women are to be believed, given the benefit of
the doubt. If they come forward and say something that is,
that they said happened to them, they should start off with
the presumption they’re telling the truth. Then you have
to look at the circumstances and the facts. And the facts in
this case do not exist. They never happened, and there’s so
many inconsistencies in what has been said in this case.
So yes, look at the facts, and I assure you it did not hap
pen. Period, Period,
“MB: But why is it different now? Do you regret what you
said during the Kavanaugh hearings?
“JB: What 1 said during the Kavanaugh hearings was
that she had a right to be heard, and the fact that she
came forward, the presumption would be that she’s telling
the truth, unless it’s proved that she wasn’t telling the
truth, or not proved - unless it’s clear from the facts sur
rounding it it’s not the truth. Look, this is a very - I’m
sorry
“MB: Go ahead.
“JB: No, no, that’s all.”
Biden s bizarreness continued but his point was clear: Any
woman’s salacious allegation against a Republican is true
and all similar claims against a Democrat are lies!

Our Lives
Have Been
Shaken
By Billy Powell
The Coronavirus has cast a pall of fear across the entire
world. Over 180 countries have become infested by the vi
rus. Most people, especially the elderly, are confined to
their homes. Grocery shoppers should wear a mask and
gloves. Stores and restaurants beginning to reopen must
enforce safe distancing between customers.
In Noah's time, God became so angry with man’s wicked
ness that He destroyed the world with a great flood. The
rain fell for 40 days until it rose above the highest moun
tain peaks. Sadly our world today may be more corrupt
than it was in Noah’s time.
The invasion of Coronavirus is suggestive of the deter
rent God released against King Sennacherib’s Assyrian
army as it readied to destroy Jerusalem and its inhabit
ants. God sent an angel who killed Sennacherib’s forces.
When the sun arose, 185,000 Assyrian troops lay dead out
side the city walls. Some conjecture that God’s angel re
leased a lethal virus to slay them.
Since businesses nationwide have closed to slow the
spread of the virus, Congress recently passed economic
stimulus bills for taxpayers and businesses amounting to
over three trillion dollars. Additionally, the Federal Re
serve pumped an additional four trillion dollars into the
economy. Making matters worse, our federal deficit was
already approaching a dangerous level at 23 trillion dol
lars. Can this country pay the exorbitant interest on the
massive deficit, or will the huge national debt precipitate
a recession and ultimately sink our economy?
Many believe the Coronavirus is the worst crisis America
has faced. Small businesses and big corporations have shut
down. Millions of workers don’t have jobs. Reduced de
mand has forced farmers to leave produce in the fields and
to pour out milk. Viral infestations have shuttered meat
processing plants. Grocery shelves remain partially bare
due to shopper hoarding, Churches have closed their doors.
Schools and colleges have discontinued classes and resorted
to on-line instruction. Surgeries have been delayed due to
hospital overcrow'ding. Without barbers and beauticians,
the hair of men and women is growing long. The startup
dates for the basketball, football, and baseball seasons may
be postponed. Families are sequestered in their homes and
suffer with cabin fever.
At this writing, the coronavirus has infected over a mil
lion Americans (one-third of world’s total) with a death
rate approaching 60,000 (more than Vietnam War). Presi
dent Trump has plans in place to reopen the economy in
stages and ultimately to put the nation back to work. Let’s
pray it works and the virus doesn’t rebound.
What is God saying to us? It may be this: “If my people,
who are called by my name, will humble themselves and
pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear them from heaven, and I will forgive their
sin and will heal their land,”
