The Confederate Dead.— Our lady friends will
remember that next Monday the 26th inst., is the
day set apart, to pay a mournful tribute to our fal
len heroes, by decorating their graves. As we have
but very few soldiers of the “lost cause” buried in
our Cemetery, we suggest that the Methodist
Church be decorated in honor, of those noble sons
of Decatur, whose bones lie bleaching upon distant
fields : an that our citizens one and all turn out, and
bestow:
“The tender gift of love,
The hearts devotion give ;
To those that gave their lives,
That liberty might live.
“The South’s heroic dead !
We claim them as our own,
We give the floral wreath,
In place of bronze or stone.
“Go ye who love the right.
Go ye who love the brave,
A floral tribute give
To deck a soldeirs grave.”
On last April a committee of ladies was appoint
ed to solieit contributions to erect a monument in
our Cemetery to the Confederate dead of this, coun
ty; we do not know what success they met with ;
we hope on next Monday evening it will he revived-,
and that the ladies will take the matter in hand at
once, and never cease efforts until the monu
ment is built. Any man who would refuse to give
something for such a noble work, (especially to a
lady) is nothing more than a brute, and not worthy
the name of human. We hope the ladies will as
semble to-morrow, and arrange matters at once as
the time is very short. Some one should be select
ed immediately to deliver an address on the occa
sion, and whoever they may select, should be noti
fied as soon thereafter as possible.
Since the above was put in type, we learn that
John C. Rutherford, Esq., and Benjamin E. Russell,
Esq., have been selected as the orators for the oc
casion, the former representing the “OrdJ%f Me
chanics,” and the latter the “Stonewall Fire Com
pany.”

Peters’. Musical Review for April is to
hand, and, in addition to fifteen pages of'
select reading matter, contains the follow-,
ing new and beautiful music :
“Ain’t I sweet?” A lady’s comic song.
By T Brigham Bishop.
“-Rest Darling Res-t.” A beautiful* lul
laby. By E. C. Usley.
“I'm Still a Friend to Yon.” Song and
chorus. By Will S. Hays.
“He Wipes the Tear from Every Eye.”
Sacred Song. By H. P. Banks.
‘Forest Glade March.” By E. Mack.
“Golden Sunset Mazurka.” By J. Hai>
ristown.
Music is generally considered expensive,
but when such a quantity is furnished for
the small sum of thirty cents, it ceasas to
be a luxury, and even the poorest can sing,
play, and be happy.
Our musical friends will do well to ex
amine this work, and we feel confident that
thirty cents, sent to the -publishers For a
sample copy, will yield them a larger re
turn for their investment than any similar
outlay they can make. Send for a copy or
get your, news-dealer to get one for you
and we will guarantee you will thank us
for calling attar.tion to it.
It is issued by J. L. Peters, musical pub
lisher, 5429, New York, at the low price of
$3 a year, or 30 cents for single copies.
Messrs Editors: Permit me, a short space
in the columus of the the Sun, to direct the
attention of the people of this vacinity, to
the all important subject of life insurance.
The lively interest you have hitherto man
ifested in all questions of general interest,
is fast making yours, one of the most pop
ular papers throughout the Southwest, and
therefore I beg you will as often as con
sultant with your obligations to other pub
lic interest, devote a portion of your space
in urging upon every man the important
necessity of giving this matter his immedK
ate consideration. How many men aie
there in our community, who are aware, th t
for the very inconsiderable sum of fitteeu
dollars annually, be may secure at'his death
the sum of one thousand dollars,? or more
fulfy to illustrate this great advantage, that
by the annual payment of sixty dollars*a
like amount may be obtained even at the
age of sixty years; surely, no one can fail
to see the great benefits which would arise
from so small an outlay.
Again, it should be remembered that Ibis
privilege is offered to those only in the en
joyment of health, and who among us can
tell that to morrow will not|bring some
slight disorder, which may insidiously as
sail tbo constitution and ultimately debar
those who would now put this matter ofl
for some future day.
There is no reason for delay, the intelli
gent everywhere are availing themselves of
these great blessings which have come
amongst us, and offer to secure to those we
love, that which long life, prudence, and
ihebest financiering could never give them.
The numberless arguments in favor of these
institutions, make it almost presumptions
to ask a sensible man to insure his life,
who has even given the subject a moments
consideration; indeed, he should ruo to
obtain the privilege.
The day is fast approaching, when a
jnan will be considered highly unmindful
of his families welfare who does not insure
his life for their benefit, and they will get
little, of the already small share of public
sympathy, which is wont to be extended
to the bereaved when deprived of their
natural protector.
Before concluding let me ask again, yonr
strongest efforts, in behalf of the widows
and orphans, who are yet to be; and that
they, may ever be free from want, and
above the cold charities of a frozen world;
that you will always and at all times, keep
before the eyes of reasonable men the great
importance of Life Insurance.
