NEVER WED.
BY MBS. TABYTHYAXN SKIMMINQS.
Girls of sixteen, ova score.
Lovely, plain and pretty—
And olilei girls of twenty more
Blooming in our city,
Let your say
Be always nay,
Never wed through pity.
Fellows with a cherry nose
Eyt-sir daylight dreamy—
Ruffled shirt, and pretty clothes.
Breath most always steamy —
Loving slings
And other things
Spicy—‘•straight” or creamy.
Fellows bragging of their pranks
Send them dancing, sliding
Let them air their ugly shanks
Velocipedes a riding,
On the cranks
Their whisky tanks
Promise slim providing.
Fe lows with a docile phiz,
Widows don’t you marry-*
‘ Girls, your teltegCOpic quiz t
Plainly bids you—tarry,
Let them slide,
Bones and ride,
With what brains they carry,
P.achelors of fancy trim,
Mellow, iresh and seedy.
Good at bluff or Holland gih,
Lazy, tattered, greedy—
l ake them in
You will sin,
Girls they’ll Snake you needy.
Widowers T'd watch them too,
Oat like. sly. and cunning.
Easy as my gaiter shoe.
Traps, wise girls ate shuning,
Goutv joints
And peevish points.
Will keep you ci azy running.

Allot er Political Letter from
Judge Deni.
PUNGENT CHiHCISM OF SECRETARY BOUTWELL AND
Hl* POLITICAL COURSE
Washington, D C. AȣUBt 17, 1869
To the Hon. George S. Boutwell , Secretary of
(he Treasury.
Sir — l shall make little apology sos ask
ing your attention to my letter, at.d less
lor the nature of its contents. You were
the fitst to deny the orthodox of my friends
and myself, and by all the rules of the fo*.
rum lam entitled to a defence. x Again, yon
hold an office of the republic, and your acts
therefore are legitimate simpers of criti
cism by the humblest citizen thereof. But
in some respects we are alike. For instance,
we are both aspirants for place, with this
difference: You aim to be the next Presi
dent, with every assurance of success,
"except'* in the opinion of the people.
While I seek an humbler place with mv
hopes in disastrous eclipse, “except” in the
judgment of Mississippi, so in the probable
results of the future we both stand adverse
to the judgment of the country. In the pm
suit of your ambition you are ungrateful
and unscrupulous as to the meins of suc
cess. Your organ the New Yotk Sun, in
the same breath ridicules the capacity of
your master and dwells with emphasis up
on your peculiar fitness for office. Your
tool . Mr Bullock, became so reekless in the
manipulation of yonr department in the
interest of your ambition, and so defiant, of
the wishes of the President, and the coun
try, that to save yourself from an explosion
of popular imitgnaiion you found it conve
nient to ti-aesler him to another sphere of
scandalous activity,, where his talents
might lit? ox'-rtcd with tqnal effort. jvnrl loss
effrontery. Virginia, Tonnpsse, Mississippi
and loxas not to niontiou anything 1 so
humldo as myself—wore obstructions in
'h' l wav of your success; because through
President Grant’s intervention in excluding 1
the prescriptive clauses from their organi 2
law, those States) are brought into the
Union and firoTiy wedded to his support.
Now this is in direct conflict with your
systematized plans. F-r what Cron. Giant
gets in the next Presidential election,
de-fly M''. Bou I well will not get, and
Ilierefore have yon denounced the conser
vative Republicans who are for Grant,
I lift you may ob’ain the proscriptive Re
publicans who are for Rout well, and bv
s une strange dexterous management and
occult political strategy yon have so
woiked upon the confidence of the Presi
■ ent as to cause him to flourish ihe dab
will) which you intend to break his head,
by inducing- him to join you >n denuncias
lion of the Conservative Republicans, a
party created by his magnanimity and
11 inmphant through his encouragement.
Rut sir, “your purpose is|easily discern
ible and has a two fold object* namely to
destroy the national republican party in the
South and then to |>e reconstruct from its
shat tered fnginent a Rout well party with
one Richmond in the field to strike tor your
crown. Rut if yon cannot succeed in this
scheme of desperate enterprise, yon mean
to ruin,” a result, from present appearances
much more likely to be reached.
Yotir official interventions for Welles for
instance gave thirty thousand mrjority to
W alker. Your letter to Stokes gave Sen
ter Tennessee by an overwhelming vote
of seventy tl ousaud. Yonr marvellous poi«
litieal sagacity now active in Mississippi
and Texas will repeat yonr calamity and
again overwhelm yon with discomfiture and
defeat, Snperadd to these results of yonr
unapproachable folly the imposition on these
States of yonr ironsclad oath and the aliev
nation is complete, landing them ull in the
outstreached arms of democracy.
But the consequence of yens folly does
not stop here-—Ohio and Pennsylvania and
othen will follow. D*cide iheir p<>liiioal
statns in October, and the North will ecli"
back tha condemnation of the South, and
peal in yonr ears this fact, that there G
still left enough of the incorruptible virtue
of the republic to rebuke you for a wanton
repression of that most sacred tin hi—ihe
elective frachise. Bui sir, this will not do
ter you from yonr mad course; yen will
still persist until every prop that supports
our party is stricken awav, and the whole
grand superstructure tumbles our j
ears in **“•* I*-"r 1 *-" r - niin. *
V\ hen you were appointed Secretary of
the 1 reasury and unanimoucly confirmed
by a Senate of every shade of political
opinion, did you take an oath to adminb
ler your office impartially and for the exclu
sive objects ot its creation. ‘To coiled
the revenue and control the finances of the
Country? Is not that office the property
of the nation, upd your-ell only clothed for
a time with a little brief authority? Then
sir, how do you explain this perversion of
its legitimate uses and functions into a
•'mans and instrument'd oppression to force
and compel an election rulers
upon the people of the South.
Is siu h a course consislant with your
oath ot office, or do you cal! this a great
moral idea? But Mr. Bout Well, though you
have thus prostituted the power of your
office for purposes of oppression, ‘‘without
the warrant af conscience or law,” it may be
that von can tell me by what authority’ you
assume to pronounce upon my political or*
thodoxy. Who constituted you the iufallu
hh* hope of republicanism?
Who gave you authority to hurl the po*
litical anathemas of the party? Again
’ what right had you to commit the adminis
trationto your policy? Have you to learn yet
that you are only a part of the adminiatra*
i-ion, and not the whole ot it? though your
friends believe that a monomania baa seised
your mind on that subject, and that you
verily believe yourself *the State.*
