•THE RADICAL OUGAS.”
The last issue of the Argus contains one
editorial, headed as above. In that article
the editor insinuates that the Sun is the
Radical Organ of Decatur county, and re
fers its readers to the editorials in our la*t
issue to substantiate the fact. Wo are per*
fectly willing Bro. Russell for the public to
judge our political status by our editorials,
,If there is any Radicalism there, the pen©
pie of Decatur county have failed to see it.
The editor ol the Argus, is an ingenious
man ; |»e patches up our article which be
refers to ctfb*;derabl v ; draws heavily.upon
his imagination ; and seemingly would like
verv much to convince the citizens of South-'
western Georgia, that the Sun is a Radical
khoet.
We are perfectly willing to leave the
matter with the people of Decatur county ;
iind we are satisfied that they can at once
see the object of the Argus, iu pronouncing
the Sun a “ Radical shoe*..” The Argus
fails to reply to our article in its last he-ue—
|otf’t answer the question propounded to it.
ju fact makes a square backdown.

Value op Newspapers to Farmers —Clark
Bell, Esq , a few days since gave to the
farmers of Steuben county aii address al
their Agricultural Fair, which was full <>f
matter of immediate and practical interest
to bis hearers. One passage of bis address
is worth copying here, and we give it, as
follows :
No one can too highly estimate the value
of a good newspaper in a family of children,
and 1 am of the opinion that if one is taken
constantly in a family that it will be im
possible for the children to conte up wi'.h*
out being intelligent upon all the current
questions of the day.
Every household should bring in the news
paper, then, as an absolute and indispen

The far met should, of all other mer, take
a good reliable agricultural paper, I defy
any farmer to try it tor a year and then be
able to say it has not paid and been in
every way for bis good.

To the Stonewall and Oak City Fire Compa
nies
I would tender my sincere thanks for the prompt
ami efficient service rendered me on Sunday night
the 10th instant, in saving my dwelling house
from that “Demon Fire.” Nor would I for one
moment forget the many obligations I am under,
for the great assistance rendered on; the occasion
by the citizens, both white and colored. To those
who removed my furniture, I would say; they used
more care than I have ever known on such an oc
casion—not a single piece damaged to any extent
And to the credirOt the city, I would say, that my
loss by theft is too small to mention. My kitchen
situated, 0n1y25 feetfrom my dwelling, wh*'®. ,
discovered by me, wa*. fully enveloped iti flames,
and communicated the fire to the dwejhng in a
very few min afes. And to the credit of the fire com

having burned.
