The Tallahassee Sentinel of the 22*d ult >
contains a card over the signature of Harri
son Reed asking the General Assembly of
Florida to appoint a committee to investi
gate his oflieial conduct as Governor of the
State of Florida, etc. We trust that the
Governor’s request will be granted, though
we are inclined to the opinion that it will not,
as the rascalities of the Legislature might
also see the light.
The Sentinel treats its readers to a long
editorial urging the necessity of a first
class hotel in the city of Tallahassee.
Eufaula, Alabama, had a lire on the 25th
tilt., but owing to the promptness of the
firemen it was extinguished.
George Francis Train, the great literary
lunatic and speechist, proposes to make a
tour through the Southern States soon. We
hope that he will not give Bainbridge the
go by.
The Cuthbert Appeal had the pleasure of
greeting this week Col. B. F. Bruton, the
energetic and indefatigable Piesident of
tue Bainbridge, Cuthbert aud Columbus
Railroad.
The famous Launitz is dead. The city of
Savannah is indebted .to his genius and
skill for the bedtrtiful 'mtmutneut in honor of
Count Pulaski.

The Green Line excursion party, arrived
at Savannah on the 2Stli ult., via the M»-
con and Brunswick and the Atlanta and
Gulf Railroads. Savannah gave them ev
ery atlentioii and a great demonstration.
It must have been pleasant to the party to
have the hospitality of so great a city as
Savannah dispens'd by its abie and worthy
Mayor, Col. John Screven.
The Griftin Star complains of being ta
ken in by a couple of Irish lads who adver
tised “a show” but didn’t perform and left
the city without payiug the printers bill.

recently on oueof the Southern railroads,
was deeply interested in the story of des
titution related by a poor Irishwoman;
whose husband was killed in tne Confeder
ate service. He repeated to his fellow
passengers the story he had heard, with

was raised on the train and handed over to

Nec.ko Labor.— Notwithstanding the nu
merous assertions to the contrary, we be
lieve. iliat the negro labor is the moat suc
cessful that can be employed by the South
ern planter. Men rnay taik and write as
much as they please of how soon the “nig
ger” will fade away before the rat-eating
Chinamen, or any ether race of
but we feel sure that such predictions will
never be realized. The planters of Decatur
county anticipate larger crops this year,
than any season since the war, aud the la
bor with which tlriu is to be accomplished

Retrenchment. —lt will be seen by refer
ence to an order, which we publish to-dav
bom Gov. Bullock that he has revoked the
order authorizing certain newspapers to
publish bis proclamations, executive de
crees, etc.
We Lust that this step toward retrench
ment will be loliowed up by much more
important ones.
The Talbotton Standard —We have re
ceived the second number of this new pu*»
per published at TalLotion, Ga, by Ger
man and Waterman, It is neatly printed,
has a large advertising patronage and is
“sound on the goose” politically. May
great success attend it.
Col. E. llui.Bert. —This gentleman has been
appointed Superintendent of the Brunswick
and Albany Railroad at a salary ol §IO,OOO
per annum. Col. Hulbert is just the man
for the place.
The Secretary of the Treasury directs
that a million dollars of gold be sold each
week during February, and purchase a
million oi bonds each alternate week on
account of the sinking fund.
According to Radical accounts the De»
mocracy has been dead and buiied seven
teen hundred times the war. If so
it must posses miraculous powers of resin***
reel ion and revivification, for it is ‘still
alive and kicking” the Rads, carpel-bag-,
gets, scalawags, blue-bellies, etc., like
blazes.

"Whereas, official information lias been received
at this Department that a- fbost atrocious murder
was committed in the town of Jackson and county
of Butts, in this State, on the 12th day of January,
inst., upon the body of Isaac Spratlin, a per.-on of
color, by one Milton Roberts, and that the said
Roberts has fled fr m Justice; and,
Whereas. Cordy Baines, Coionerofsaid county
Butts, certifies to me that he, together with the
other officers, and many citizens of said county, ha s
nv.de every posible effort in his power to appreheud
the nantderer. but without avail.
No-.v, therefore, to the end that said fugitive
from justice maybe brought to justice for the crime
width which he i- charged I have thought proper
to issue this, iny proclamation, hereby offering a
vewaid of One Thousand Dollars for the apprehen
sion and deli very of the said Milton Roberts, wiih
evieence to convict, to the Sheriff of said county
arid State.
And I do moreover charge and require all officeis
in this State, civil and military, to he vigilant in
endeavoring to apprehend the said Milton Roberts,
in older that he may be brought to trial for the
crime with which he stands charged.

Whereas, Official infoimation has been received
at this Department that a most atrocious murder
was committed in the county of Bartow on the 1 ’ th
day of December, 18G9. upon the body or Cornelius
Smith by James McCoy and that the said McCoy
has tieil from Justice;
I have thought proper therefore, to issue this
my proclamation, hereby offering a reward of two
hundred dollars for the apprehension and delivery
of said McCoy, with evidence sufficient to convict
to the Slid iff' of said county and State.

cers in this State, civil and military to be vigilant,
in endeavoring to apprehend the said James McCoy t
