their sons, when they should know that there is
only about one clerk in ten who can command a

can keep off starvation through his profession, and
exceedingly few physicians who ever attain any
thing like independence.

Whereas, official information has been received
at this Department that an assault with intent to
murder was committed in the county of Ilahef
shani on or about the 13th of June last, upon the
person of Isaac Oakes, by one Enoch Dickson, and
that the said Dickson has fled from justice ;
Now, therefore, I have thought proper to issue
this my Proclamation, hereby offering a reward of
One thousand Dollais for the apprehension and
delivery of the said Dickson, with "evidence suffi
cient to convict, to the Slmriff of Habersham
county, in order that he may be brought to tiial
for the offence with which he stands charged.

Whereas, Official information has .been received
at this Department that James Toombs, a desper
ate character recently convicted of murder and
confined under sentence of death in the compiou
jail of Houston county, lias made his escape from
said jail and is now at large.
Now, therefore, I have thought proper to issue
this my Proclamation, hereby offering if reward of
Five Hundred Dollars for the apprehension and de
livery of said James Toombs to the Sheriff of Hous
ton county, in order that he may he punished for
the offence of which he stands convicted.
Given under my hand and life Great Seal of the

teenth day of July, in the year of our Lord Eigh
teen Hundred and Seventy one. and of the In

datitfns upon the good and law-abiding citizens of
Lumpkin county, and the counties adjacent there
to, and that several indictments are now pending

assault with iment to murder, arson, horse steal
ing and other divers crime* ; tfnd
Whereas, Notwithstanding the diligent efforts
by the civil authorities in endeavoring to appre*
bond the said Fricks, he lias succeeded in eluding
their vigilance, and is still at large greatly to the
terror and the disturbance of the peace and good
order of said communities :
Now, therefore, believing that the offering of a
suitable reward is essential tc the means of l>ri..g
iuc to justice the said Fricks. I have thougut
moner to issue this my Proclamation, beieby offer
ing a reward of Five Hundred Dollars for the ap
prehension and delivery of the said Ileus Flicks to
