city last Saturday, Hon. Samuel Love, of Quincy,
lie was in fine health and spirits. Ho reports all
quiet in the land cf Flowers.
Amusements.— Wednesday morning \oo gentle
men of our town held a small cussing spell One
called tho other a “ad liar” when the other
everlastingly slashed his head with a huge
atick. Here ended the performance.
Lectuu* —Mr. William H. Badges, will de
liver a lecture npon the Science of phonetics, on
Monday night next, at the Court House. Admiss
ion .'>o cents. This will be both an amusing, and
interesting lecture, therefore we hope to see it
well attended.
Thames. —Our thanks are hereby tendered to
onr friend, and politest of conductors, Mr. Joe
Demerges, for the safe return of o«r ‘Devil,’ who
war lot from us, on Friday last at the Thomas
ville Fair. May he live long and prosper.
Tlie Knights from tmr County swept all the
honors. Mr. C J. Munnerlyn Jr. won the
worth S3OO, MrW. W. Wright, took the second
honor, Mr. Griffin the third, and Mr. Donalson
the fourth, ltain falling at two o’clock, drew the
audience in doors, and the knights finished the
cnute-'t with out few to wituess their speudid
horsemanship.
Acquitted. —William Johns, who, in a person
al and fficulty killed, near Quincy Fioridi, « Mr,
Edwards, s -me throe month ago was acquitted
in tho Superior Court at Quincy, held on the 4th
day of October last. The Evidence clearly show ed
that he acted in self defence.
Th a Locals.— We have left the local column
this week almost entirely to the care of Cupt. Gur-*
ley. who, in connection with our clever young
friend It W. Davis, Esq., has been in charge of
(ha editorial reins of the paper for some time.

readers this week relative to the rather unfavora
ble appearance of the Sc.v. We did not
roach the city in time to remedy the evils for this
issue. Into which the typographical part of the
paper has lately fallen, but will meet you with a
clean face and smiling couutensvnce next Ihurs
day and ever thereafter.
Administrators Salk —The second plants-,
tion belonging to the Estate of \Villiam
Donalson, was sold Tuesday for distribution among
the heirs. Samuel Dickinson purchased the one
on the Chattahoochee liver for Six thousand dol
lars cash, Charles Donalson the one in Fowlstown
for five thousand Dollars, one third cash tho bal*
anew on time.

tobaccos, and would be glad to meet all of his
friends from this eection of country, or to re

Them* mu.* Fair.—On Friday la-t, accompa
nied by a *‘P Gin B," and our “Peril” we made
a decent upon Thomasvill to look after the Fair,
rhe Hstvens were hung in black, threatening
min every moment, y t there was a large and
brilliant assembly of people in attendance- As
so many descriptions have been given of what
was on exhibition, we shall desi-t from any far
ther attempt. 'lheie w ere some things that es
caped attention that we shall men* ion. Crowding
into tbe exhibition rooms looking after cariosities,
we ran against a pair of legs, that we concluded
belonged to the Cardiff giant, or some other giant.
We commenced interviewing upwards toward the
head, when a startling voice trom the direction
of where the head was, broke npon our tympa
num, “take our paper sir." Turning our visual
organs npon the mouth that nttered these sayings,
we yelled Gentry ! lh**re he stood, like some tall
cliff, hand extended, holding the Morning New*,
smiling serenely our way, but iookihg another for
fe*r he would miss somebody. We went for him
and a i-hake of his business looking hand brought
his vision our way, and between ns parsed a
friendry, old time greeting.
Next we saw a tall (tap sail ant of the door lo
wardthe amphitheatre. His strides were huge and
rapid. We-ton snrely, thought we, going for a
heat npon the race course. Went in pursuit—
made a flank movement—got on his line of march
to intetview the renowned walkist- He appeared
and lo ! the anxious phiz of John Jacob Jackson
Benjamin Billy Gorman, his rival, dispelled onr
delusion, f'nward he came -, onward he went,
scanuiog every female face, until his gaze fell
npon a bright particular star from Decatur, For
that siar, the piettiest girl in Georgia, went John
and John was happy.
The music of the day was good, the bird shoot
ing poor, and the riding of the knights excellent
