CONSUMPTION-
Its Cure and its Preventive.
by j. h. scbknok, m. and.
MANY a human being has passed away, for
whose and. alh there was no other reason than
the neglect of known and proven means of cure.
Those near and dear to family and friends are
slepoina the dreamless slumber into which, had
they calmly adopted
Dr JOSEPH H. SCHENCK’S SIMPLE TREAT
MENT,
and availed themselves of this wonderful effica
cious medicines, they would not have fallen.
Dr Sdieuok has in his own cate proved that
whereter sufficient vitality remains, that vitality,
by his medicines and bis directions for their use,
is quickened iuto healthful vigor.
In this statement there is nothiug presumptuous
To the faith of the invalid is made no representa
tion that is nit a thousand times sustained by liv*
in<r and visible works. The theory of the cure by
D* Schenck’s medicines is as simple as it is un
failing. Its phylosoply requires no argument.—
It is self-assuring self-conviuciDg.
'ihe Seaweed Tonic and Mandrake Pills are the
first two weapons with which the citadel of the
malady is assailed. Two thirds of the cases of
consumption originate in dispepsia and a function
ally disordered liver With this condition the
bronchia! tubes “sympathize” with the stomach.
They respond to the morbific action of the liver.
Here then comes the culminating result? and the
setting in, with all its distressing symptoms, of
CONSUMPTION.
The Mandrake Pills are composed of one of Na
ture’s hoblest gilts—the Podophilium Peltatum
They possess all tbe blood-searching, alterative
properties of calomel, but unlike calomel, they
“LEAVE NO STING BEHIND.”
The work of cure isn >w begining. Tbe vitiated
and mucous deposits iu the b'>we!s and in the ali
mentary caual are ejected. The liver like a clock,
is wound up. It arouses from its torpidity. The
stomach acts responsively, and tbe patient begins
to feel that he is getting at last,
A nUPPLY OF GOOD BLOOD.
The Seaweed Tonic, in conjunctioi with the Pills
permeates and assimilates with the food. Ohilifis
cation is now progressing without its previous tor
tures. Digestion becomes painless, and the cure
is seen tabe at hand. There is no more flatulence
no exacerbation ot the stomach. An appetic sets
in.
Now comes the greatest Blood Purifier ever given
bv an indulgent father to suffering man Schenck’s
Pulmonic S.uup comes in to perform its function?
and to hasten and complete the cure. It enters at
once upon its work. Nature cannot be cheated.
It collects and ripens the impaired and diseased
portions of the lungs. In the form of gatherings,
it prepairs them for expectoration, and In ! in a
very short time the malady is vanquished, the
rotten throne that it occupied is renovated and
madenew, and the patient, in all the dignity of
regained vigor, steps forth to enjoy the manhood
or womanhood that was.
GIVEN UP AS LOST.
The second tiling is, the patients must 6tay in
a warm room until they get well; it is almost im
possible to prevent taking cold when ihe lungs
are diseased, but it must be prevented or a cure
cannot be effected. Fresh air jind riding out, es
pecially in this section of the conntiy in tbe fall
au<l wiuter sea-on, are all wrong. Physician? who
recommend that course lose their patients, if their
lungs are badly diseased, and yet, because they are
in the house, they must uof sit. down quiet; they
must walk about the room as much and as fast as
the strength will bear, to get up a good circulation
of blood. Ihe patients must keep in good spirits
be determined to get well. This has a great deal
to do with the appetite, and is the great {point to
gain.
To-despair of cure after such evidence of Us pos
sibility in the worst cases and moral certainty
in all others, is sinful. Dr. Scheuck s personal
statement to the faculty of hia own cure was in
these modest words •
“Many years ago I was in the last stages of
consumption; confined to my bed. and at one time
my physicians said I could uot live a week ; then,
like a drowning man catching at straws, 1 heard
of and obtained tbe prepartions which I now of
fer to the public, and they made a perfect cure of
u j It seemed to me that I could feel them pen
etrate my whole system. They soon ripened the
matter in my lungs, and 1 would spit up more
than a offensive yellow matter every morn
ioj for a long time.
“As :oon as that began to subside my cough,
fever, pain and night sweats all began to leave me,
and my appetite became so great that it wan with
difficulty that I could keep from eatiug too much.
I soon gai.ted my strength, and have grown in
flesh ever since.”
‘I was weighed shortly after my recovery,” ad
ded the Doctor, “then looking like a ine>e skele
ton; my weight was only ninety-seven pounds ;*
my present weight is iwo hundred twenty-five
(225) pounds, and for years I have enjoyed unin
terrupted health ”
Dr. 8-j’iienck has discontinued his professional
visits to New York and Boston. 118 or bis son.
Dr. J. H Sonenck, Jr., still continue to see pa
tients at their office. No 15 North sixth street.
Philadelphia, every Saturday from 9 a. m. to 3 P.
81. Those who wish a thorough examination with
the Respirometer will be charged 55 Tbe Reap-.,
romeler declares the exact condition of the lungsi
and parienis can readily learn wheather they are
curable or not.
Ibe directions for taking tbe medicines are ad
anted to tbe*in!el!igervce even of u child. Follow
these directions, and kind nature will do the re-t
excepting (hat in some cases tbe Mandrake Pills
asetobe taken in increased does ; the three ntedi
cins need.no other accompaniments than the am
ple instructions that accompany them First create
appeeite Os returning health hurigorjs the most
welcome sy.jtom. When it come, ns it will come,
let tbe desparhig at onre be of good cheer. Good
blood a, once follows, the cough loosens, the night,
sweat is abated. In a short time both of these mor
bid symptoms are gone forever...
Dr., Sehenckts medicines are constantly kept in
tens of thousands of families Aaa laxative or
purgative, the Mandrake Pills are a standard j re
paration / while the Pulmonic Svrup, as a curer of
