value and protection. Many
students make decisions toward
a career or area of study in

involvement in this workshop".

Metro Albany’s Job
Growth Slows In May
State Labor Commissioner
Michael Thurmond said that the
rate of annualized job growth in
metro Albany slowed to a
negative three-tenths percent in
May, down from 1.4 percent
when compared with the same
period a year ago.
Metro Albany lost 200 jobs
from May 2000 to May 2001,
down from a gain of 800 from
May 1999 to May 2000.
The rate of annualized job
growth in Georgia slowed to 1.5
percent in May, down from 3.1,
percent when compared with
the same period a year ago.
The combination of slow job
growth and continuing layoffs
are symptomatic of an economy
that is slowing even more now
than it was earlier in the year,"

ployed but actively seeking
employment, was 5.1 percent in
May, down slightly from 5.3
percent in April. It was 5.7
percent in May of 2000.
The slight one-month drop
was due to increased employ
