each first Monday at 7 p.m. at the

at 7 p.m.
Children of First Baptist Church
returned last Thursday from
Children’s Camp at Norman Park.
Mrs. Mary (Polly) Rhodes and
co-workers at Dr. Williams den
tal office spent last weekend at
Panama City, Florida.
J.M. and Grace Rhodes spent
the weekend at Stone Mountain,
Georgia with son, Jim Rhodes.
His wife, Toni and son, Graham,
returned from a two weeks visit
with Toni’s sister and family in St.
Petersburg, Florida.
Mrs. Marion McAfee, sister of
J.M. Rhodes, Jr. is spending two
weeks with J.M. and Grace
Rhodes. Mrs. McAfee lives in
Memphis, Tennessee.
The Rhodes Reunion will have
their 35th Family Reunion this
Sunday at the Chehaw Building
in Leesburg.
Thursday, August 2nd, the FBC
Leesburg Youth are going to
“Whitewater’’ for the day. They
will leave at 6:00 a.m. and return
that night.

Satterfields Announce
“Birth Of “Daughter
Mr. and Mr. Joel Satterfield of
Newnan, Georgia, announce the
birth of their daughter, Elaina
Marlie Satterfield, on Saturday,
July 21, 2001 Emory - Peachtree
Hospital. Mrs. Satterfield is the
former April Draper.
At birth, Elaina Marlie weighed
eight pounds and three and a half
ounces. She was twenty and a half
inches long.
Grandparents are Bill and Jean anc j [y[ art y Young of Lee County
Satterfield of Albany and Melanie anc j j a j e Donnie Draper.
LCMS To Hold Open House

Lee County Middle School will
host an open house for seventh
and eight students and their par
ents next week. All students and
their parents are invited to the
open house.
Seventh Grade Open House
will be held Wednesday, August
8 starting at 6:30 p.m. The open
house for the eighth grade stu
dents and their parents will be
held Tuesday, August 7 starting at
6:30 p.m.
The Open House will begin in
the gym. After a short meeting,
parents and students can visit with
the teachers and students in the
classrooms.
Stacey Emerson Receives Degree
Stacey Emerson, daughter of
Audrey Emerson of Lee County
and Luther Emerson of Albany,
graduated Summa Cum Laude
with a Bachelor of Science Busi
ness Administration in Finance
from the Sam M. Walton College
of Business at the University of
Arkansas in December 2000.
At the commencement exercise
on May 12, 2001. Miss Emerson
was recognized as both a Senior
Scholar and member of Beta
Gamma Sigma, the Academic
Honor Society for Collegiate
Schools of Business.
Leesburg’s Fifth Street To
Be Paved In Near Future
Georgia DOT Commissioner Tom Coleman recently approved
preparation of a contract covering grading, drainage, base, and sur
facing improvements to Fifth Street between Academy and Peach
Streets in Leesburg.
While contract preparation has begun, construction on this project
cannot begin until the contract has been signed and a work order
issued.
State Transportation Board member Billy Langdale has been in
strumental in gaining approval for this project. Langdale represents
the 2nd Congressional District, which includes Lee County.
Others who worked to help secure state funding for this project
include Senator George Hooks (D) and Representatives Jimmy Skip
per (D) and Bob Hanner (D).
In cooperation with state and local leaders, the Georgia DOT is
committed to building and maintaining top-quality roads that meet
mobility needs with environmental sensitivity. For general informa

Laura Amy Peterson and
James Edwin Maxwell,
both of Leesburg, Georgia,
exchanged their wedding
vows at 6:30 p.m. May 19,
2001.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John
Sedberry of Leesburg,
Georgia and the late James
Edwin Peterson.
Mr. Maxwell is the son of
Charlie Maxwell of Lees
burg, Georgia and Kathy
Wilkes of Leesburg, Geor
gia.
The couple were united in
marriage at the Little Log
Wedding Chapel in
Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Rev. Travis Tatum offici
ated. The bride was escorted
by her mother, Pamela
Sedberry.
The couple honeymooned
in Tennessee.
A wedding reception was
held June 30 at the Shrine
Club in Lee County. Jade
Hollow provided the enter
tainment.
The bride and groom are
both graduates of Lee
County High School. The
bride is employed at Phoebe
Putney Memorial Hospital
as a registered nurse. The
groom is employed at
BellSouth as a service tech
nician.
