Start off with the thoughts and friends Make it worth your while to be there, Greet your teacher with a smile and say “It’s great to be here, I’ll declare!” We’ll work together all the year We’ll be the best of friends, We’ll greet each other every day And so on to the very end! Good Luck! GSW Continuing Education Plans Trip And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusa lem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Bethel. And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven. ... More over the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat. who made Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he brake down, and burned the high place, and stamped it small to powder, and burned the grove.... And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover unto the LORD your God, as it is written in the book of this cov enant. Surely there was not holden such a passover from the days of the judges that judged Is rael. nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah; But in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, wherein this passover was holden to the LORD in Jerusalem. Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abomi nations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD. And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him. Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierce ness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provo cations that Manasseh had pro voked him withal. And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there. Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? from 2 Kings 23 For a free Scripture packet, please write From the Bible, BIBLE FOUNDATION, PO Box 908. Newberg, Oregon 97132. email: bf@bf.org Why did God create you and me? What is the purpose for our existence? We long to know. The Bible outlines one of our basic rea sons for being. “He [God] made from one ev ery nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God.” All the people of the world stem from Adam, the very first human being. God made him. God brought each of us into the world as his children, grand children, great-grandchildren, etc. God brought each of us into the world at specific times and he takes each of us off the stage By Frank Taylor Scripture Verse “I (will) rather glory in my in firmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 Question From Reader What does it mean when people in the Church talk of backsliding? Response- Backsliding is simply falling back into old bad habits and sins. Nugget of Truth The burden you are feeling is only the weight of the Potterfs hand forming you for His glory. Bible Lesson A new believer does not have to become a backslider. God has given us “all things that pertain unto life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3). If we sin, we lose the joy of our relationship with God, and it is our own fault. However, we should know the cause and cure of backsliding. This will help us to avoid being backsliders, and will teach us how of life at our appointed time. “In Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me” (Psalm 139:16). God put us in the world in the particular country, state, and city in which we live. He put us here for a reason. We are to seek Him. That is, we are to look to Him, pray to Him, worship Him, and seek counsel and com fort from Him. God may be found among His people. Seek Him there in worship. God is nearby, in His Word. Seek Him by reading the Bible. “Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6). It is usually a slow pro cess rather than a sudden happen ing. Simple pleasures may crowd out our Bible study and prayer times. Bad company may draw us away from interest in spiritual things. Secret sin may dull our sense of right and wrong. Bit by bit we give in to the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil. We fail to speak openly of Christ. Soon we donft seem to be at all different from unsaved people around us. We can see this process working in the life of Samson (Judges 14-16); Elimelech (Ruth 1:1-5); and Pe ter (Luke 22:54-62). When a person truly has ac cepted Jesus Christ as their per sonal Savior and has fallen into sin and backslides, they demon strates particular characteristics that we may recognize. Next week we will cover those certain things that are seen in a person that has wandered away from the Lord. Your Bible Questions may be forwarded to Frank Taylor, % Lee County Ledger, and P. O.
