Lee County Majors American All-Stars
Lee County American was the host team for the 2001 Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament
held in Leesburg July 28 - August 4. Lee County American won two games and lost two with both
losses coming against the eventual state championship team, Columbia County North. Pictured

BMX Riders Competing At The
Grand National Championships
Area BMX riders will be com
peting at the Grand National
Championships that will be held
in Louisville, Kentucky.
Riders from Leesburg: Jessie
Graffam is a 7 year old Novice
currently ranked 1 st out of 100
riders in his class. Tyler Miles is
a 7 year old Rookie currently
ranked 8th out of 107 riders in his
class. Wesley McMillan is a 7
year old Novice currently ranked
24th out of 100 riders in his class.
Jake Moye is a 9 year old Rookie
currently ranked 3rd out of a class
of 122. Trent McMillan is an 11
year old Expert currently ranked
32nd out of 86 riders.
From Albany: Lane Griffin is an
8 year old Novice currently
ranked 13th out of 88 riders in his
class.
From Sylvester: Derek Wyles is
a 10 year old Expert currently
ranked 2nd out of 69 riders in his
class. Derek just competed at the
Worlds and finished in 8th place.
Eugene Wyles is a 15 year old
Expert currently ranked 26th out
of 111 riders in his class.
Area Runners Compete

Runners Club participated in the
“Run for Love Evening Run” in
Tifton, Georgia, on August 4,
2001
In the 5K (3.1 miles) event Dr.
Robert Feldman finished first in
18:25 in the Master's Male divi
sion. Kerry Underwood finished
third in 19:55 in the 35-39 age
group. Benny Wade finished first
in 22:22 in the 60-64 age group.
Lamar Dickens finished second
in 23:28 in the 60-64 age group.
Wayne Kirkbride finished fourth
in 23:31 in the 50-54 age group.
Donnie Yarbrough finished in
23:35 in the 45-49 age group.
Ellen Yarbrough finished third in
29:53 in the 45-49 age group.
Danny Wall finished third in
31:16 in the 55-59 age group. Bill
Hatcher finished third in 31:17 in
the 60-64 age group. Brenda Gail
Wall finished in 41:59 in the 45-
49 age group.

SARY" Championship game Sat
urday night, First Free Will came
from way behind to defeat the
Forrest Park Church of Christ
from Valdosta. Georgia 27-26.
Forrest Park had forced the "IF"
game with a 19-9 win earlier. Our
other STATE HOST team. First
Baptist-Americus, lost a couple
of tough games early on the tour
nament. The defending State
Champions, First Baptist-Moult-
rie also had an early exit, playing
only three games. The tourna
ment was a huge success, bring
ing a tremendous economic im
pact into Lee County with four
teen teams from all over the State
of Georgia taking part in the tour
nament!
Congrats to both of our Lee
County DYB Major teams for a
good showing in last weeks Dixie
Youth Major State Baseball tour
nament. Columbia County won
their second consecutive Major
State Championship as they de
feated North Macon two games
to none in the best of three Cham
pionship series. Hats off to Jamie
Korona for a tremendous job as
tournament director. Thanks also
to all the many volunteers who
helped make the tournament a
huge success.
Fall Baseball registration ended
last Saturday and we are prepar
ing for the start of the Fall Base
ball season this Tuesday, August
14th. All games will be played at
the Park Street Baseball complex.
We will have leagues in the 8-
Under, 10-Under, 12-Under &
14-Under age groups for the next
five weeks. This league is going

Overall Male division. David
Vann finished first in 6:13 in the
40-59 age group. Kirsten
Underwood finished second in
8:18 in the 9-13 age group.

ond in 8:28 in the 8 & under age
group. Tammie Vann finished
second in 9:58 in the 40-59 age
group.

Registration for Youth Football
and Cheerleading concludes this
week! TODAY (THURSDAY).
TOMORROW (FRIDAY) and
SATURDAY are the LAST 3-
DAYS for Youth Football and
Cheerleading registration. PASS
THE WORD PLEASE!!! Regis
tration is being held in the
scoretower at the Kinchafoonee
Sports Complex. Registration
times are 4:00-6:30 PM Thursday
and Friday and 9:30 AM - 2:30
PM on Saturday. Registration is
also going to held in SMITH-
VILLE this SATURDAY ONLY
from 10:00 AM -12:00 PM at the
Depot! Registration cost is
$50.00 for football and $65.00 for
Cheerleading ($40.00 IF you
have your uniform from last sea
son and plan on cheering for the
same team). When registering,
PLEASE have your child with
you and bring a copy of your
childs birth certificate that we can
KEEP on file. We have a LOT of
birth certificates already on file,
however, better safe than sorry so
bring one even if you think we
have your childs already on file.
We also still need some coaches
for both football and
cheerleading. PLEASE CALL
ASAP if you are interested in
coaching. Call (229) 759-6047 if
you can coach a team this Fall.
In conclusion this week, I had a
good friend of mine remind me
of an old saying that I wish we
all could abide by, human nature
however keeps us from doing this
on a regular basis; "Don't judge a
person till you walk a mile in their
shoes." We all make mistakes on
a regular basis, "To err is human,
to forgive is devine." So easy to
read these old sayings, yet so hard
to live by them.
