Chief Hardison Retires
Chief Charles Hardison was presented with an engraved clock at a luncheon
attended by approximately 80 county employees. Chief Hardison is credited
with bringing Lee County’s Fire Department into the 21st century with trained
firemen and modern equipment. Chairman Mathis stated during the luncheon,
“All the people of Lee County appreciate the 24 years of service you have given
to your fellow man and the protection and dedication you have provided to our
citizens”. Pictured with Chief Hardison (seated), left to right are Chairman of the
Lee County Commissioners, Billy Mathis; Century Commissioner Eddie Hinman;
and Leesburg Commissioner Lewis Harris.

Leesburg Police Chief Charles
Moore reports that officer worked
cases during the past week in
volving vandalism, traffic viola
tion, wanted person and larceny.
Captain Monterey Moody re
sponded to a vandalism call at an
apartment complex where he was
advised by the victim that un
known person(s) had done dam
age to her vehicle. Upon check
ing the vehicle, someone had used
a sharp instrument and punched
a hole through the air conditioner
and radiator and broke the elec
tric antenna.
Melvin Brown Covin, 42, of E-
7 Woodstone Apartment. Lees
burg. was charged with sus
pended license first offense DUI
by Assistant Chief George
McDonald on October 12. Covin
was stopped at a road block on
Peach Street and charged for li
cense suspended for DUI offense.
Covin was transported to Lee
County jail on the above charge
and vehicle turned over to a fam
ily member.
Randolph Lamar Holiday, 46,
of 503 North McKinley Street,
Albany, was charged October 9
with speeding 63 m.p.h. in a 45
m.p.h. speed zone, driving while
license suspended and driving
under the influence of alcohol by
Captain Tim Murphy. Murphy
clocked Holiday at 63 miles per
hour in the 45 m.p.h. speed zone
and turned on his blue light as he
turned around to stop Holiday.
Holiday ran off the road several
times before he stopped. Holi
day, who smelled of an alcoholic
beverage when approached by
Murphy, told the officer that his
license was suspended. A com
puter check showed his license
was suspended and a bench war
rant from Dougherty County.
Murphy read Holiday the Implied
Consent and he refused at the
scene. He was then transported to
the Lee County Jail and he again
refused to take the breath test. He
was booked and placed in jail. A
hold was placed for Dougherty
County.
A theft by taking at the high
school was reported to Assistant
Chief McDonald on October 5.
The victim stated unknown
person(s) took $20.00 out of her
billfold. The case is pending.
