Smithville Municipal Court
Lee County officials held a ground breaking ceremony for the new fire station
that is being built in the Redbone District. The station should be completed by
the summer of 2002. Pictured are County Commission Chairman Billy Mathis,

The Lee County Utility Authority held a Groundbreaking for their state of the art
Water Pollution Control Facility November 8. The plant is located 1576 U.S. Hwy
19 South in the southern part of the county.

request for the financial informa
tion had been made several times
since the recreation board was
formed by the county commis
sioners. The recreation board is
charged by the county commis
sion to develop a budget for the
next fiscal year. To develop the
budget, the recreation board
needs to review expenditures and
deposits made by the recreation

Recreation Board Seeks Answers

board is unable to obtain the fi
nancial information from the
county staff, County Commis
sioner Lewis Harris, who serves
on the recreation committee, said
that he would request the finan
cial records.
The recreation board is request
ing the current financial standing
of the recreation department, the
budget by line item for the fiscal
year, all outstanding obligations,
all expenses since the beginning
of the fiscal year and a monthly
update, a list of all contractual
commitments (fields, uniforms,
tournaments, umpires, and con
cessions), agreements with
American legion, DYB, soccer
(LYSA), etc, salaries, benefits,
etc. of all recreation department
employees, upkeep costs of rec
reation department vehicles, av
erage monthly utilities costs, cost
of cell phones for recreation de
partment employees and receipts
of each sport or activity.

Charles Hardison was honored by the Leesburg City
Council last week during the council meeting. Mr.
Hardison recently retired from his position as Lee
County Fire Chief.
Smithville Municipal Court was
held Friday, November 2. 2001.
The court docket contained 82
cases to heard by Judge Jim
Thurman. The 82 cases included
50 for speeding, 16 miscellaneous
traffic cases, three DUI, five open
container, three disorderly con
duct, four possession of mari
juana and one theft by shoplift
ing.
