AMAC Hosts Fall Fly-In
Special to the Ledger
Airmasters Model Airplane Club hosted its Fall Fly-In, Satur
day, November 3, at the club field on Hwy. 32 East. Approxi
mately 400 spectators were in attendance to enjoy a variety of
different remote control airplanes flown by 37 registered pilots.
The crowd also enjoyed special flying demonstrations at 1:00
PM which included RC combat, an RC cropduster, a special trib
ute to September 11 tragedy, full size cropduster demonstration
compliments of Bruce Andrews of Arlington, Ga., outstanding
demonstrations by various RC aerobatic planes, helicopters, RC
paratroopers, RC X-l rocket plane and an RC candy drop for the
kids.
Club members began Friday preparing for Saturday's event by
setting up, cooking Bar B-Q and enjoying some RC night flying
(interesting).
AMAC is looking forward to hosting a Spring Fly-In next year.
AMAC is a proud member of the Lee County Chamber of Com
merce and offers an alternative form of sport/recreation to the
community for ages 8 to 80. AMAC is a 55 member strong club
(and growing) and invites anyone interested to come out and
join them most Saturday and Sunday afternoons at the club field
located on Hwy. 32 east next to Lee County Public Works.

The Georgia State Patrol at Al
bany announced that ten traffic
accidents in Lee County were in
vestigated during the month of
October, 2001. These accidents
resulted in two injuries and no
deaths.
In the area of enforcement by
Post 40, Sergeant First Class E.
L. Williams said his officers had
made 94 arrests and issued 153
warnings during the month.
Various courts in Lee County
disposed of 59 pending traffic
cases during the month with the
following: 31 guilty pleas, 12
bond forfeitures, and 16 nolo con-
tendre pleas. Sergeant Williams
explained that cases and arrests
would seldom be the same num
ber for each month because some
cases are carried over into the
next month to coincide with court
dates.
He also pointed out that fines
and forfeitures, amounting to
$9,357.00 for the month of Octo
ber, were paid to the courts of Lee
County.

Albany introduces their
2001 National Hostess,
Emily Howland, age 4. Emily
will hostess the Miss
Debutante Christmas
Extravaganza Pageant on
December 1 in Albany. She
is the granddaughter of Bill
and Karen Davis of
Leesburg.
Bush Wins Election
Richard Bush won election to the Leesburg City Council in the
only contested election on the ballot. Mr. Bushg will represent Post 3
on the city council. That Post was represented for many years by the
late Jessie Henderson.
Mr. Bush received 72 votes while his opponent Carolyn Waters
received 40 votes. Leesburg has 1098 registered voters.
Voters in Leesburg also approved the freeport exemption which
exempts the value of inventory of goods in the process of manufac
ture from ad valorem taxation as well as the inventory of finished
goods.

serves on the board of the
YMCA; is a member of the Ves
try, St. Paul's Episcopal Church;
and a member of the Artesian
Sertoma Club. He is married to
the former Jenna Griffin of Al
bany. and they are the parents of
three-month-old Robert Lee
Leach, Jr.
Heather Price, a resident of Al
bany for 17 years, had been in
vestment service specialist, work
ing with Leach, for the past two
years. Before joining SunTrust,
Price worked as a medical center
representative.
A native of North Carolina,
Price is currently working on her
bachelor's degree at Christian
Life School of Theology, Colum
bus, Ga. She has an associate de
gree in theology from CLST. She
is the mother of three young chil
dren, Dakota, Kelsey, and Collin.

Young And Junior Miss Historic
Southern Plains Crowned
Jenna Lane Wiggins, a fourth
grader at Lee County Elementary
School, was crowned "Young
Miss Historic Southern Plains"
and Katlyn Skye Emerson, a fifth
grader at Lee County Elementary
School, was crowned "Junior
Miss Historic Southern Plains."
Jenna also received the "Young
Miss Photogenic Award" and
Katlyn received the "Junior Miss
Photogenic Award." The pageant
was held on September 29 in
Plains. Ga.
Jenna is the nine year old
daughter of Gail and Lane
Wiggins of Smithville, Ga. and
the sister of Jason and Nick. She
is the granddaughter of Bobbie
Pines and the late Pete Pines, and
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Melvin, all
of Smithville, and Mr. and Mrs.
Covin Wiggins of Americus.
Jenna enjoys competition
cheerleading at Tiger Pride Cheer
Gym and is a member of "Cat's
Youth Allstars Competition
Squad." Jenna is also the reign
ing "Young Miss Heart of Geor
gia 2001-2002."
Katlyn is the eleven year old
daughter of Steve and Sherri
Emerson of Leesburg, Ga. She is
the granddaughter of Luther and
Carol Emerson of Albany, Audrey
Emerson of Leesburg, and the late
Glenn and Ethelene White of
Cordele.
Katlyn enjoys dancing at The
Pink Slipper School of Dance and
has been a member of the com
petition dance team "Smooth Step
Dance Company" for seven
years. Katlyn is also the reigning
"Junior Miss Lee County 2001-
2002."

Monthly Report
Miss Joan-Marie Bums recently
was crowned "Miss Historic
Southern Plains" at the Historic
Plains High School. The scholar
ship pageant earned Joan-Marie
a $1000 cash scholarship, plus a
$1000 in-kind scholarship to
Georgia Southwestern State Uni
versity. She also won $150 schol
arship for Talent Competition.
Joan-Marie is the daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. John C. Burns III of Al
bany.
Joan-Marie served as Miss Al
bany 2000. She will have another
chance to compete in the Miss
Georgia pageant in June, promot
ing her platform of Habitat for
Humanity International. As Miss
Albany. Joan-Marie personally
raised $60,000 for Habitat and
was Fourth Runner Up in the
Miss Georgia Pageant. She was a
Preliminary Swimsuit Winner
and the first recipient of the
Burma Davis Posey Christian
Service Award.
As "Miss Historic Southern
Plains" Joan-Marie is raising
more funds for the community of
Plains, the hometown of Habitat's
most famous volunteer, former
President Jimmy Carter.
Joan-Marie has a first-degree
black belt in tae-kwon-do. She
served as President of the 1998-
1999 Albany Debutante Club and
was the youngest person to ever
receive a Martin Luther King
Dream Award in 2001. Joan-
Marie is a member of Porterfield
United Methodist Church. Re
cently, Joan-Marie was selected
as a member of Who's Who
Among American Colleges and
Universities. This organization
recognizes students who have
proven themselves academically
and have made positive contribu
tions to their campuses through
student involvement.
Leslie Reese, Lee County
Middle School faculty member,
is on the Board of Miss Historic
Southern Plains. She and other
Board members will be assisting
Joan-Marie as she prepares for
the upcoming Miss Georgia Pag
eant in June.
